Two of my favorite games
Pirates! and Pirates! Gold were two of my most favorite games growing up. I still have both games on 3.5" floppies on the shelf, even though I don't have a computer that can run them anymore. Highly suggest these games along with the newer Sid Meier's Pirates!. FYI: the soundtrack that is included with this package is actually music from the new Sid Meier's Pirates! and not either game in this package.

Its still CLASSIC!
Way back when Microsoft actually had a Software House (Microprose) I got this beauty for my Atari ST. This is the Classic DOS original, and perfectly preserved... Point and click, move your mouse about... Controls could not be more simple but making the top spot is going to be. If you think this game looks a little more familiar or just want better Graphics, You could just go out and Buy "Sid Meier's 'PIRATES!' an why not... He worked on this original... And the Maps and bits you get in the Goodies with the GOG release can help you with finding the treasure (Seriously! The maps are 100% accurate!) While the newer version does have far more action throughout, you cannot fault this classic.

Forget this, play the original.
Or the 2004 version. They are both better than this version (Pirates! Gold), which was sort of an attempt to revive the original with a few extra features, but overall was not as much fun. It has some glitches/bugs that aren't fatal but are definitely annoying, and it has no new features over the 1988 version that the 2004 remake didn't do MUCH better. Even the original, with its simplicity, is a far greater classic than this one. Still, it's playable, and rather pretty for its age.

Great little title...
I have yet to review a game on GOG but was compelled when Pirates Gold! showed up. The reason being is that this was one of the first games I sat with my young son and played. As we played, there was a mission to find your sister or go after buried treasure. We went after the buried treasure but my son said to me "If this was real life...I'd go find my sister." Yes, this is a great game.
