Immerse yourself in Ancient Egypt from the age of the great pyramids to the final years of the New Kingdom. Govern all aspects of the exotic Egyptian, culture from religion to trading with distant cities. Cultivate vast farms in the Nile valley and discover the important role this river, with its unpredictable floods, played in the life of the Egyptians. Stone by stone, erect giant monuments - from the Sphinx, to the lighthouse and library of Alexandria.
Manage your city poorly and you shall watch it burn, be pillaged or collapse in economic ruin. Manage it well and ultimately the greatest Egyptian structures will be built in your honor. Your rule will span generations, until your dynasty, your royal bloodline produces a Pharaoh!
Pharaoh includes many features never before seen in a city building game, such as a farming model based on the flooding of the Nile, naval warfare, giant monuments that are assembled over time, unique dynastic progression, and variable difficulty levels. This a massively addictive, huge, but most importantly fun game that is a great choice for anyone looking for a solid city builder title, or an intellectual challenge.
Pharaoh Cleopatra bundle includes Pharaoh and Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile expansion.
A city-builder gem, made by the creators of the award-winning Caesar III.
Extensive help section not only does an excellent job at explaining the game mechanics, but also contains many interesting facts and trivia about life in Ancient Egypt.

This is an awesome by the way. Just so you know though, sometimes the pyramid building gets suck and you can't complete the stage then. To make it worse, it tends to happen on the larger pyramids. To fix this turn on god building. Save god building until this happens, but be sure to turn it off once it starts happening so you can invoke it again if it gets stuck again. If that don't work, load a save to a time before it gets stuck(You should save often anyway) and invoke god building just before the time it gets stuck(It will stick in the same spot everytime) to bypass the glitch.
In reference to the earlier review about not being able to run this game on Windows 7 64, I used to have the same problem with several games I bought on GOG.com (they would not run). I discovered that turning down the resolution solved the problem. Windows 7 defaults at 1920 x 1080, but changing it to 1600 x 900 solved the problem and my games run with now problems (I didn't even have to use compatability mode).
As for the game itself, Pharoah was one of my all-time favorites and I've been waiting a long time to see it released on GOG. Caesar III was decent enough, but i like the additional features such as monuments and roadblocks (and the overall "feel" of the environment).
Without a doubt, this game is head and shoulders above any other city builder. I've given SO many hours to this game and loved every minute of them. The gameplay is very detailed but not difficult to learn. Nothing is better than seeing the massive city you've created grow and get richer and richer with each passing hour. I get that Pharaoh "urge" at least once a year and play day in and day out for at least a month. Try it, you'll love it!
I'm no expert on city-builders, but this is without a doubt the best I've played of its kind; even new titles of this genre doesnt manage to capture the heart of a gamer the way Pharaoh does. There are hours upon hours of fun in this game, and I can reccomend it to anyone who likes games of this genre.
Everything about this game screams quality. The isometric graphics are beautiful, the monuments are appropriately grand (in size, presentation, and the sheer satisfaction you get when you finally complete one), the audio is perfectly immersive, and everything has fantastic historical attention to detail. It's one of my favorite games of all time.
A quick summary: You guide Egypt through generations of history, starting with subsistence farming in villages of huts, proceeding to larger villages with bits of trade and mudbrick tombs, and finally building grand pyramid complexes while meeting the needs of your mansion-dwelling townsfolk, appeasing multiple gods, and fending off invasions.
Egyptian life is presented accurately through the ages (down to the annual flooding of the Nile!), and the result is an exciting, enjoyable city-building game that will keep you occupied for hours and hours.
