Description
This RTS challenges you to a race to acquire energy and create a new home for yourself in a newly discovered galaxy. Featuring strategic terraforming to acquire resources, the game lets you manipulate the landscape to extract energy, expand your base, increase covered territory and limit your opponents' options. In turn, energy extraction provides power to units, buildings and protective force shields, making energy management and environmental awareness the key components to successful gameplay.

In addition, Perimeter's use of a feature called nanomorph technology allows units to be transformed into different strategic elements directly on the battlefield. Teamed with a wealth of missions, structure types, maps and factions, Perimeter delivers unparalleled tactical opportunities ready for adaptation in any gameplay situation.
  • Beautiful graphics and a very advanced terraforming engine.
  • An impressive number of versatile units that can transform to best fit the current needs of the battlefield.
  • A unique and compelling story in a surreal world shaped by dreams and nightmares.

obscure masterpiece

Occasionally you may find yourself playing a game so novel and well-realized that it reminds you of the limitless possibilities of the medium. Not only are most of the mechanics fresh and unprecedented, but the world-building and the story are wonderfully creative, offering wonderment at the mysteries of the unknown. The only flaw I could identify is that some of the units are poorly balanced (requiring disproportionate numbers of sub-units or investment in labs relative to their utility, or overpowered once constructed *cough* daemon scourge generators *cough*), and maybe the inability to queue buildings which requires seemingly unnecessary micro. I should mention that I'm a fanboy of this game going way back, and I haven't played it in a few years. But it really left a lasting impression on me and at this price even the most casual of RTS fans should be obligated to try it out. So glad it's on GOG so that I can bug everyone I've ever met to buy it. Someday I will at last have the opportunity to try the multiplayer... and ruin it for everyone else with cheesy exploits and strats refined over hundreds of hours.

Buggy

I purchased this game on GOG because I adore RTSs and this game has got some pretty good reviews. I found, though, that the game is simply too poorly made to be playable for long. Units veer into abysses and kill themselves even though there is a very obvious path for them to go around. Squads refuse to form even though all units necessary are present. Build queue numbers magically disappear (although the queue itself still continues building). These problems just make the game too frustrating to play for more than a couple hours for me. The ideas behind the game are great, it's just unfortunate they didn't have better programmers.

A solid, but ultimately average RTS

This has enough new ideas to make it worth checking out, but I ran out of steam with it fairly quickly unfortunately - I didn't see enough to encourage me to persist.

Fun at first then it's Frustrating.

It's an interesting game right up until the Mission "Eldruid" where you have to continuously build Energy Cores until a Spiral charges up, meanwhile you're being continuously attacked by The Scourge, forcing you to use your perimeter shield constantly which drains energy until you can't anymore. And then pretty much you're at the mercy of the scourge as they destroy your Energy cores. And that's where the game stopped being fun for me. This mission single-handedly killed any enjoyment from playing this game. And I've read other reviews and forum posts indicating it just gets even more frustrating from there. I wish I could refund it.

Great Game

Perimeter is a great game if you have some time to spare. The Unit building is unique. You have to build the base units, then "transform" them into more advanced units. This idea is a new twist on making your army of units like in other games. Although i wish it wouldn't take so many base units to make 1 advanced unit of a particular type. The idea of having a shield around your base whenever you need it is cool, but it uses too much power and is hard to keep going for any amount of time. For those of you looking for a "new' RTS experience, you should pick up Perimeter. It's a great game with an interesting little story behind it.
