Description
In this bundle you can have two great trade games, predecessors to Patrician 3, in the price of just one! Set against the historical backdrop of maritime trade at the time of the Hanseatic League, the Patrician series sees the player take the role of a citizen of a medieval hanseatic town in Northern Europe, between London and Novgorod, with the aim being to rise from the status of an ordinary, unimportant trader to that of a major business tycoon and governor of your hometown.
To achieve this goal, the player must gain the respect and recognition of other inhabitants and try to make a profit through maritime trade, the production of goods and the completion of missions. The player can raise his profile by both improving the city and through diplomacy, or by raising money for his treasury by means of piracy and smuggling - but watch out, others want easy money too, so you would do wise to arm your ships!
A realistic simulation of a complex world comprised of production, transport, trade and consumption
A mix of genres including trade, economics, sea battles and diplomacy
Detailed and historically accurate graphics

If you are looking for the sequel, get Patrician 3 instead, it is the same game as Patrician 2 with the expansion which improves the game ALOT. There is zero reason to play without it.
In Germany it was called "Aufschwung der Hanse" and sold as an expansion to Patrician 2.
If you are looking for Patrician 1, then disregard this review.
I have had this game for some time and I still enjoy playing it and trying different ways of getting to the top (which I have yet to achieve), The game at first can be a bit daunting but give it time and it will become a game you will enjoy playing again and again.
As you probably know if you have played the original this is a trading Sim, I find the Patrician 2 though to be the best of the bunch not only graphically but also gaming wise with some major improvements which you expect from a sequel.
The main thing I like about this game is how you can build your own businesses and deal with supply and demand, I tend to concentrate on Visby all the time, no idea why but I just think its in the best location, the only downfall I can see with this game is it can get a bit much when you have several businesses to look after and if your not careful the costs can go mental and you will be broke in no time.
But overall I do love this game and I recommend anyone to give it a go.
First Patrician was released in 1992 and was most complex trading game. I love economic games and this are better ones. It's not some easy tycoon but for me it's godd game was developed this way.
If you like economic games Patrician is definetely quite enjoyable. Een graphic side of games, not so important for this kind of games, is made nicely. Terrain & cities are rendered good and detailed. This is advantage of 2D games which I like from always; they getting old much slover than 3D ones. Sounds are good matched to graphic too. Nice main theme and sound effects
Patrician 2 has few game modes do discover; small single player missions, campaign and multiplayer up to 8 players. It's another game with 'from zero to hero' schematic. You start as some low-level trader,no one knows you, no one respects you, you have to earn all of it by your actions. Fundamental knowledge about economics and trading mechanism brings you few benefits here. Patrician it's a game which you hae to be prepared to... Fortunatele couple of tutorial missions are avaiable but the don't learn you all. But anyway i personaly don't count it as disadvantage.
I like difficult games and especially those satysfying. Patrician is one of those...
If these peak your interest for a casual trade-sim game, there is LITERALLY no point in getting them - get Patritican 3 instead (see my 5 star review there). That is because 3 is literally just the re-release of 2 plus the Hanse expansion pack for 2, plus other languages support because (back when first released) 2 + Hanse were only available in German whereas 3 was the first version made for the international market.
And Patrician 1 is just too old, it's a 1992 game that looks even older. Sure, if you're really into gaming history or somehow studying game development etc, go for it, otherwise buy 3. What I don't understand is why GoG even sells this - they should just include Patrician 1 as a freebie alongside Patrician 3, and forget 2 entirely. But I guess the game makers want them sold this way. Oh well.
one of my fav eco sims.
there is just ONE big problem that the game always had and what people dislike and actualy keep them away from playing.
there is ALWAYS a random chance that a ship can "go missing" by bad weather.
sadly, there is nothing you can do against this "feature", it is as i sayd, fully random.
if someone could rewrite the code for that "event" or bring out a small mod that just prevents this random ship sinking, i would still play it daily and give it 5 stars.
but i still give it 4 stars because its just that great.
