Pathologic 2

this game's atmosphere, themes and concepts truly transcend the entire medium. its a surreal experience that feels like a mix of brecht, kafka and chekhov all roled into one. sure, gameplay might be a bit on the challanging side, considering its all about surviving an unfolding cataclysm while solving a murder but the mechanics are pretty simple to understand and the frequent saving points allow you to revert back if you're unsatisfied with a certain decision or outcome. there's a lot to explore and figure out and you won't be able to do everything in 1 playthrough because you're on a time limit, encouraging you to prioritize and make quick decisions.

Pathologic is a remake... well a sequel... well it's own take on the concept of the original game, a meta-narrative nod that shows us how much the game industry have progressed and finding new ways to introduce an anxiety indusing horror into reality. Fixing a lot of the harder edges of the first game it creates new parts to generate friction to the player, with systems over sytems on top of eachother draining your time, health and sanity, all of this to add weight to the world giving us one of the most interesting tales of all time in a way that is only possible in this medium. Pathologic 2 isn't a fun game, is a great great game, a unique piece of art that showcases the peak of horror and survival gameplay, being the only videogame that reached to me giving me actual dread and fear.

Pathologic 2 is a bona fide work of art that rivals Silent Hill 2 and elevates gaming to the masses. This' a densely, fiercely intelligently-written game that's very philosophical in the Eastern European sense and its real meta unlike 'Rick and Morty'. I fell in love with the scary town, the children, my alleged friends and the ethnics & white people trying to live with the sentient plague. Many of the negative reviews of this game are correct this game is jankyAF, poorly optimized in areas, the combat is bad, the story isn't complete but cut into 3 separate games (in development) and the ending is so pretentious its equivalent to a 'muh intellectual' sniffing his own farts whilst condescendingly explaining his interpretation of Stoicism. This game isn't for everyone but I believe everyone should try it.
