Description

The Imperial Edition includes:
  • A premium downloadable copy of the game which contains 2 in-game items to help an aspiring adventurer (a signet that allows you to bless your party several times a day, and a belt with bonus disease and fatigue resistance). Premium in-game items are not designed to break the game’s balance.
  • Two additional portraits. Images of a fearless warrior from Cheliax and a skilful elf wizard will be included in the gallery of portraits available upon creating a character.
  • A digital Art Book. 176 pages with sketches of characters, monsters, items and the game world, lovingly selected by our artists.
  • Official soundtrack. Contains a complete set of in-game music, created by Inon Zur and our Owlcat Games composer.
  • A digital module for board game adventures. This module has been created from scratch by game designer Chris Avellone assisted by Paizo experts to express gratitude to the entire pen'n'paper RPG community and the Pathfinder universe for providing support and being a source of inspiration for working on the game.
  • A digital high-resolution map of the Stolen Lands. This detailed map can be used as a desktop wallpaper. It can also help you navigate the dangerous and mysterious territories of the Stolen Lands.
  • A Red panda. This pet not only greets its owner, standing adorably on its hind legs, it will also increase your negative effect resistance.
  • A Season Pass. The Season Pass will automatically get you access to the first three packages of post-release downloadable content. These additions expand the world of the Stolen Lands and add new companions, locations, buildings, items, and most importantly - new adventures, memories and emotions for you to experience!

A premium downloadable copy differs from a regular downloadable copy by having the items mentioned in the description above.

Based on our players' feedback and suggestions, this version of the game improves and builds upon the original. This edition includes:
  • numerous gameplay-enriching content additions and dozens of quality-of-life features,
  • new abilities and ways to build your character, including a brand-new class,
  • new items and weaponry,
  • improved balance, especially in the beginning and last two chapters of the game,
  • enhanced kingdom management system, both in terms of balance as well as usability and player comfort,
  • increased variety of random encounters on the global map,
  • thousands of fixes and improvements made since the game's initial release.

With the help of over 18,000 Kickstarter backers, Narrative Designer Chris Avellone and composer Inon Zur, Owlcat Games is proud to bring you the first isometric computer RPG set in the beloved Pathfinder tabletop universe. Enjoy a classic RPG experience inspired by games like Baldur's Gate, Fallout 1 and 2 and Arcanum. Explore and conquer the Stolen Lands and make them your kingdom!

Explore the Stolen Lands, a region that has been contested territory for centuries. Hundreds of kingdoms have risen and fallen in these lands, and now it is time for you to make your mark—by building your own kingdom! To do so, you’ll need to survive the harsh wilderness and the threat of rival nations… as well as threats within your own court.

Customize your character with a wide range of classes and powers including specialized archetypes, powerful arcane and divine spells, choosing from a multitude of class abilities, skills, and feats. Pathfinder allows players to create heroes (or villains) that fit both their individual gameplay styles and their personalities.

Meet a diverse cast of companions and NPCs, including iconic characters from the Pathfinder setting itself. You’ll need to decide who to trust and who to watch carefully, as each companion has an agenda, alignment, and goals that may differ from yours. Your journey will become their journey, and you’ll help shape their lives both in the moment and well into the future.

Conquer new regions as claim them as your own, carving your kingdom from the wilderness. While classic dungeon crawling and exploration lie at the heart of this adventure, diplomacy, politics, and kingdom development are also part of the challenge. Choose your allies well, and keep them close while exploring ancient tombs and ruins — and while dealing with politics in your own court.

Your kingdom is a reflection of your character and your choices throughout the game. It is a living thing shaped by your alignment, your allies, and your ability to lead your people. Not only can your kingdom expand, opening up new territories and allowing you to build new towns and communities, but your capital city will physically change based on your decisions, your policies, and even whom you choose to ally with. As your kingdom grows, a number of factions and neighboring countries will come to you to seek favor—and to test your strength.

Explore - Conquer - Rule!

The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game is an evolution of the 3.5 rules set of the world's oldest fantasy roleplaying game, designed by Paizo, Inc using the feedback of tens of thousands of gamers just like you. A rpg with a lot of souls

So as someone who played baldurs gate and neverwinter nights this game is a true love letter to this games.Very good writing and there is so much depth here as well.Great variety of races and classes and a lot of freedom to roleplay.I started the game not on normal difficulty so i can’t tell how hard it is there but above you get wrecked xx times. The game has a very hard learning curve especially at the beginning but if you push through and level up your characters and learn the mechanics it’s getting way easier. But you can still get ambushed by enemies when you try to rest so even if you understand the mechanics it’s not a guarantee for survival so you will save and load a lot believe me.Don’t put your head into the sand and give keep going it’s worth it.You can also choose between real time and turn based and believe me turn based can save your butt in really gritty situations.A lot of choices a castle management system are also here so if you are a fan of rpgs i would give this game a shot because it’s something special

Authentically Pathfinder

If what you like is tabletop RPGing, then this is right up your alley. It sticks so close mechanically to the PF / 3.5ed ruleset that as a longtime GM I know just what to expect. If you're a tabletop fan, then this digital module is going to be a good choice. Although the choices for character development purposes are intentionally constrained; not every playable race, feat, and skill are represented, but that's for good reason. The game would become an unbalanced mess! Also, in case you're wondering: YES custom portraits are possible - place them in a folder in your user appdata in Windows, look it up online, I'm not your dad.

A lot of good, still buggy.

I am basing this review on version 1.3.x. The 2.0 update dropped today, which is a pretty major update, so I will update the review once I've played through the game with it. Bugs: A lot better but a significant number still remain, especially in the late game. Depending on choices made in the game, there can be a final extra mini-chapter at the end, which I had to re-load a prior save twice and re-enter due to bugs that blocked progression (an exit portal failed to appear the first time, preventing all progress, and the game didn't "notice" I'd completed one of my tasks, and kept telling me to go do it the second time). I did encounter many minor bugs as well, with one potential party member simply not showing up in my playthrough. The 2.0 Changelog mentions a lot of the bugs I encountered as fixed, which is a good sign, but a lot of the custom portraits I've added to the game simply do not appear in the 2.0 character creation, so there are probably some new bugs to iron out as well. Gameplay: Pathfinder, with some simplification of skills. Combat is generally fun and varied, allowing for serious min/max players to stress test builds at higher difficulties and more casual or role-play focused builds room to breath at lower difficulties. "Normal" seems well balanced for experienced RPG players with minimal experience with Pathfinder. Early game can be a little rough, but ironing that out was one of the goals of the 2.0 update, so this may have been fixed. Writing: A mixed bag, but has some genuinely great quests (The Price of Curiosity / Inconsequent Debates stood out, and was genuinely hilarious) and the voice actors put in good performances in general with some outstanding voice work (Props to Amelia Tyler for an outstanding performance) My biggest complaint would be about pacing, with sometimes main quest events waiting on a certain dates, and there seeming little to do, and other times, multiple urgent quests hitting one after the other at other times.

Disappointing

Disappointing because the RPG side is nice (i am an old fan of AD&D) and so are the story and the setting but there are numerous things that just ruin everything for me. First, the frustrating kingdom management (you can turn it off but doing so you remove a big part of the game) : missions are raining, are only avaible for a limited time and skipping/not being able to do them for whatever reason can be detrimental for your kingdom. You have, at very best, only one advisor of each type and they can be on a mission for looong looong time ... while numerous missions are awaiting and have their clock ticking. If you are unlucky you simply have zero advisor available for a role for a long time, with your always ticking missions awaiting. Secondly, the timed quests (didn't find any option to remove the timers) ! God i hate being forced upon to do something not going at my pace ! You have auto lose/fail timed quests, you can't take your time to explore the map : 90 days for the first one or game over, same for the second, etc ... even some side quests have a timer ! Thirdly, the AI. Simply put it is dumb and worse, you can't tweak it (Baldur's Gate 1 back in 1998 allowed it) meaning your clerics with melee weapon will charge like barbarians (and get miced), your mages with ranged weapon will keep shooting without casting : you have no choice but to pause and micro manage all along each fight. Conclusion, i really want to like this game but i just can't keep playing it. Taking the setting and story writing of Pathfinder with the mechanic of Pillars of Eternity would make a tremendeous game.

Sort of good, but with major flaws.

TLDR: If this is your first CRPG, avoid, otherwise the price is so low you might as well give it a shot. In the beginning the enemies are to overtuned. In the middle the game fells rather nice, In the end the kingdom management stuff becomes a burden. The "twist" in the last dungeon should never be repeated in any interactive medium.
