An epic tale
I see a lot of negative reviews, but I think most of the issues have been fixed at this point. This is a fantastic game with truly epic scale. I have spent over 100 hours on it and can totally recommend it.

Some fun parts
The gameplay is fun! I like the pathfinder ruleset and building my character and running around my world and ruling a little kingdom. Except I don't like the ruling a kingdom part, and there doesn't seem to be much way around that. Maybe there's setup I could change, but it doesn't feel worth the effort to set up a game that's challenging for my character, but not because of the kingdom management junk. I'd love to finish the story, but I don't know that I'll start over again...

Awesome CRPG! Bugs/Design Flaws Fixed
Now that a strong majority of the bugs and design flaws have been worked out, I am loving this game. I was a backer on Kickstarter and have the Kickstarter version, so I'm not sure if GOG will recognize me as a verified owner of the edition I'm reviewing. I started a playthrough shortly after I got the game, and I loved it. However, I was only able to play through the first act before the bugginess became too much for me. I started another playthrough earlier this year (2019), but had to stop around the end of the 2nd act or beginning of the 3rd due to kingdom management design flaws. I just started another playthrough, and I'm loving this game all the more because it's working as intended now. Kingdom management used to be awful, but now a lot of the issues that fell in the design flaw category are gone. I've noticed this time around that many quests which were a little broken are now fixed. Before, you could do certain things out of sequence, but that seems to have all been fixed, at least for the first couple of acts. I've noticed a few quests have been slightly altered to better fit the game, and some areas have been altered which had too many monsters before. Anyway, this is an awesome game, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys D&D tabletop gaming or has played other CRPG's such as Divinity Original Sin. Keep in mind that Pathfinder is a complex system and takes time to learn. The game tries to teach you what you need to know, but I don't think it does very well. There are better online resources for learning this system such as the PFSRD.

At last, a fantastic fantasy RPG
Short version: It's a fantastic and deep game with minor and/or debatable limitations. Longer: version: Strengths of the game are the story (with superbly paced two-step ending) and well-written characters and locations, many of which I'll remember for a long time. I particularly appreciated the difficulty of the game, that I'd label as "rewarding" on Normal difficulty - one cannot expect to succeed with no thinking whatsoever (which was sort of the case in many recent RPGs unfortunately, which makes the enjoyment of succeeding in them low), but I haven't met a single place that would be frustratingly difficult*, although many places did require re-memorizing spells, learning new buffs, etc. One must "play" the game actively, making a decent party that works well together, and thinking about consequences of your actions, rather hoping that game designers have protected you from failure. I also liked the freedom to tackle situations in different ways (not always, but in many cases), possibility of exploring the world on your own, a surprisingly well-working mix of kingdom management and normal RPG experience. *) There are some well-known cases that have the potential to be frustrating,(early spider, or "broken" Wild Hunt). But there are hints for tackling these, and the former don't have to be fought much. And with the third, there is a fairly simple counter that clerics can do. You don't have a cleric? The game designers were kind enough to make traders sell relevant scrolls. And you can make new mercenaries, even in later stages of the game. Cons? Some bugs remain (I encountered one that ment I had to load 30 minutes back). Interactions with party members could be made even deeper. And I think that it might be communicated a bit better to the player just how important the decisions in companions' quests are in the end. Overall, I'm in love with the game and it's one I'll surely want to replay, probably several times.
