Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition

Great game with interesting mechanics of kingdom ruling. Rich role playing with lots of choices how to solve quests. Awesome story and lots of nice NPCs. After many days of playing it is a great pity that game ends. Thanks developers for great world!

I have always appreciated the in-depth character creation of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system, and this video game really, in my opinion, captures the complexity and diversity of that system without seeming too overwhelming. I also love the ruling system twist on the standard ISO RPG. Great way to make something new from something (the genre) old.

Purchased recently so I have no experience with the buggy state in which it released, it was a very enjoyable playthrough.

TL;DR: I loved it. Great if you like old-scholl CRPGs (or just tabletop RPGs), but there are a lot of things that might put you off. This game has problems. Most of the serious ones have been fixed since release, but it's still janky and, in places, buggy. The balance is way off. And with all that, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It's scope is huge. A lot of people hate on the kingdom management part of the game, but I found it fun. The story was pretty good, there are a ton of side quests that can, for the most part, be resolved in different ways. The main quest line also has pretty good variety - I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like there are a ton of endings, some of them changing the structure of the endgame entirely. The companions are alright, a few of them are great. If you like crunch in character building, oh boy is this the game for you. If you don't, there are some options for automatic builds, but I have no idea how viable they are. If you have no experience with Pathfinder/D&D or D&D-based CRPGs, the system will overwhelm you. Also, the game is long, and the pacing is pretty slow. I spent about 260 hours in it across 2 playhroughs (1 partial, 1 full), the full one was around 200 hours. Again - I liked that, but it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

. . . at least not before I have even made it to what I consider the midway point. Pathfinder Kingmaker now has the dubios honor of being "that game", the only game I dropped barely into the second act. It's like that girlfriend that won't tell you what she wants, expects you to read her mind and then ignores you when (surprise) you can't read her mind. If you are thinking about getting this game because it "is like the Baldur's Gate of old", then think again. Game mechanics, wayfinding, story, all are almost totally broken. Here is your typical day spent playing: Travel, travel, die in random encounter, reload save, camp, bet random encounter, enter area too high level for you, die, reload save, travel, travel, travel, camp, travel, travel, camp, and so on... If you want a great locked 3D Iso with clear mechanics, a good story, good chracters, etc., you''re better off replaying Baldur's Gate . . .
