Based on our players' feedback and suggestions, this version of the game improves and builds upon the original. This edition includes:

  • enhanced kingdom management system, both in terms of balance as well as usability and player comfort,
  • increased variety of random encounters on the global map,

With the help of over 18,000 Kickstarter backers, Narrative Designer Chris Avellone and composer Inon Zur, Owlcat Games is proud to bring you the first isometric computer RPG set in the beloved Pathfinder tabletop universe. Enjoy a classic RPG experience inspired by games like Baldur's Gate, Fallout 1 and 2 and Arcanum. Explore and conquer the Stolen Lands and make them your kingdom!

Explore the Stolen Lands, a region that has been contested territory for centuries. Hundreds of kingdoms have risen and fallen in these lands, and now it is time for you to make your mark—by building your own kingdom! To do so, you’ll need to survive the harsh wilderness and the threat of rival nations… as well as threats within your own court.

Customize your character with a wide range of classes and powers including specialized archetypes, powerful arcane and divine spells, choosing from a multitude of class abilities, skills, and feats. Pathfinder allows players to create heroes (or villains) that fit both their individual gameplay styles and their personalities.

Meet a diverse cast of companions and NPCs, including iconic characters from the Pathfinder setting itself. You’ll need to decide who to trust and who to watch carefully, as each companion has an agenda, alignment, and goals that may differ from yours. Your journey will become their journey, and you’ll help shape their lives both in the moment and well into the future.

Conquer new regions as claim them as your own, carving your kingdom from the wilderness. While classic dungeon crawling and exploration lie at the heart of this adventure, diplomacy, politics, and kingdom development are also part of the challenge. Choose your allies well, and keep them close while exploring ancient tombs and ruins — and while dealing with politics in your own court.

Your kingdom is a reflection of your character and your choices throughout the game. It is a living thing shaped by your alignment, your allies, and your ability to lead your people. Not only can your kingdom expand, opening up new territories and allowing you to build new towns and communities, but your capital city will physically change based on your decisions, your policies, and even whom you choose to ally with. As your kingdom grows, a number of factions and neighboring countries will come to you to seek favor—and to test your strength.

Explore - Conquer - Rule!

Unforgivably bugged

Being a backer from the kickstarter, I am very sad to write this. There is great potential is this game, but what good is it when you have to replay large chunks of the game because suddenly it cannot load saved games? It could have been game of the year, had it been developed by professional programmers and properly tested before launch. So far, it is only a chore to play. A poor beta with big optimization issues. I don't think I will ever have the nerve to play it through the end.

Almost a master piece

By the game itself its so much like a classic Baldurs Gate and it has very nice characters involved with pretty great stories behind them. The most brutal and annoying part is the difficulty curve EARLY on. At low level its just frustrating to get 1 shot in the tutorial missions, thats crazy and even if its true to the Penn&Paper (as first level is supposed to die to absolutely everything) , the game would work a lot better if it simply started at like level 3 and avoided this problem (as for a video game, this is just annoying, its not fun, its 100% annoying). Then you get again very early a Quest with an enemy that is just flat out immune to your damage and you just die. Again, its true to the Penn&Paper , but in these points it absolutely should avoid putting players into these situations so early in the game, when people badly need to just get into the game. The non-existence of a way to respec and reskill your characters is also an annoying problem that is just again because in Penn&Paper you dont allow it , but the game should absolutely allow it (and make it simply an option or a game mode that does not allow respec/reskills , but any more casual level should not stand in the way of the player). Then we have some very crazy difficulty spikes in the game early on, which should be easy to avoid for the devs. Simply put, these things should not exist, the very first playtester will point these things out and they have to be fixed immediatly. City Building and all the later parts are fine, i dig them and they are fun, at the later stages when you understand the games rules and all its trying to do, the game works way more smoothly (it even becomes too easy, which is ironic, as the early game is literally the most deadly point in the game). A better representation of time and active quests like a timeline would be great. In the end, its a really great RPG game, its pretty much on the level of Pillars of Eternity and does some things even better.

Disapointing

Tons of bugs. Infinite loading times each time your load a game. *each* *and**every**foockin'**time* you enter a dungeon. Minutes you can count ! *each* *and**every**foockin'**time* you enter your capital. *each* *and**every**foockin'**time* ....whatever. And, except if your are already an expert mastering the rules (yeah, Pathfrinder 's rules are fine, but not obvious for beginners) you'll have to save and reload a lot. So, considering the price, my concusion is : NO. No. Don't waste your money here until the game is fixed/documented on an acceptable level for the required price. Ho yes, graphics are fine, though. So, if you pay only for graphic, please go. If not, just NO.

The closest Baldur's Gate experience!

Title almost says it all. I've been a huge BG fan ever since the games came out and never really found a similiar experience. I was rather disappointed by Pillars of Eternity. For the first time I am playing an cRPG which gives me the same feelings I had back then when I was 20 years younger and was playing BG on my first play thru. The stories are very well written and engaging. The characters are also very well written and believable, which is a huge plus for me. The graphics may not be the best out there, but they work perfectly with this kind of genre and make the world authentic. For example I like that the weather actually has an effect on the party! Combat is very similiar to BG. If you are experienced with this kind of game than you will probably have no difficulties dealing with the system. Some fights are tough. But you always have the control over the difficulty settings which you can adjust to your playstyle on the fly. One of the best features in the game imho are the resting system, the book event stories and the kingdom management system which is not seperate from the actualy game, but tight into it, which makes it even more interesting! I understand the game had many bugs when it first came out, but since then the developers worked hard to eliminate most of them. Pathfinder Kingmaker is now a very solid, engaging, fun game. I totally can recommend it!

Best Dungeon Crawler in Ages!

Kingmaker does the impossible task of translating not only the classic adventure path of Kingmaker, but the entire game of Pathfinder to the realm of CRPGs! If you're a Pathfinder gamer, then this is the perfect way to get your Pathfinder fix on those off weeks when you don't have a regular game. If you're new to Pathfinder, then take your time and read through the explanations of abilities and rules in the game. You may want to leave your characters on "auto-level" so you avoid build disasters in your characters. My only complaint would be that several of the missions are timed, but there is almost no way of knowing which ones are pertinent at any given time and which one should take priority next. This is really a great way to give the game an OSR (Old School Revival) feel, but unfortunately, most players that want the OSR feel are most likely still playing a patched up version of Temple of Elemental Evil from 15 years ago instead of this bright and shiny masterpiece. Pathfinder to them is too "fiddly" and anything beyond rolling a d20 and having game stats is too complicated. Fortunatelt, I love the complicated nature of Pathfinder. I love the mechanics and the ability to design and specialize my characters to the ideal that I carry in my head. I'd love to see the Gunslinger and the swashbuckler added to the game. There should be reminders about ongoing missions, so you don't run out of time or your kingdom falls into ruin over and over again. If everything goes to heck and back in your game, you can lower the difficulty, and set the kingdom mode to "invincible", so there are ways to mitigate the frustration, but there has to be another way to help a player stay on track without the game spiraling into failure. Buy your bag of holding early and invest in a Pathfinder companion as soon as you can. From there, explore to your heart's content and make the Stolen Lands your own! Buy it today and experience your dungeon crawling like never before!
