Excelent game way above its competitors
I focus my review on the game itself, assuming all the bugs that plagued the game the first couple of months after its release have been fixed. This is an excellent game with interesting new features, when comparing to its competitors. It reminds me some of the feelings of the historical (and still the pinnacle of the genre) Baldur's Gate 1+2, while introducing new dynamics like the kingdom management. The plot is nice and have some decent depth making it worth of seeing it through the end. I do especially like the management of alignment and moral choices. You can mix chaotic evil and lawful good characters in the same party giving a lot of flexibility in the roleplay. Companions are mostly interesting, even if sometimes annoying (Nok-Nok is a real pain...). I think that Baldur's Gate was still superior either from the point of view of the plot and on the tactical level. I do miss the buff/debuff mechanics that made fights again mages so complex and funny in BG. Here magic is a bit underwhelming... you have few overpowered buffs which will fill your spellbook and a bunch of other useful spells, while the rest is mostly negligible or unusable. There is finally a nice depth level in the choices made through the game, which can unpredictably influence the ending in profound ways. I do especially like the "hidden" possibility to get the true ending (no spoiler here) by exploiting real and early roleplay decisions. Globally I think there is a lot of room for improvement, however this is a positive thing since the game is already extremely enjoyable. I hope that the developers will gift us with an improved sequel (or a different game) which can aim to reach the position of a pinnacle of CRPGs. There is no need to make comparison with other failed attempts, like PoE, which deluded me due to the lack of focus on RPG elements.
