Description

An island outside of reality. A rogue human civilization hoping to resurrect dead alien gods. A murder behind locked doors.

Paradise is an island that regenerates every few millennia. The psychic power that the alien worshipers within release into the universe is meant to feed and eventually resurrect their fallen deities. But this force also attracts undesired interest from demons, who eventually corrupt each island — until a new alternate reality is birthed by the Council.

The system isn’t perfect, but it will be one day — on Perfect 25, the next island-to-be. But on the eve of rebirth, the Council is murdered and Paradise is killed.

In the aftermath, the “investigation freak” Lady Love Dies is summoned from exile to find the culprit. This is the crime to end all crimes.

What are the facts? What are the truths? Are they the same?

Return to Paradise Island in this updated and enhanced version of Paradise Killer, featuring new music and new mysterious beings, additional quests and rewards, extra Starlight skins, and more collectibles to find, plus performance improvements, a HUDless mode. A free update for all players, available March 16, 2022.

Featuring DX12 support, ray tracing (DX12 only), advanced upscaling (NVidia DLSS and AMD SR), and a host of other visual and performance updates, Paradise Island looks more stunning than ever! Also available in the March 16 update.

You are tasked with finding the killer and building an airtight case against them. Take your case to trial and argue your interpretation of the evidence. Only when someone is successfully convicted can the crime be considered solved and Paradise be saved.

The “truth” is that there are many possible killers, and many ways to build a case. Even if you make a convincing case for prosecution and get someone convicted, is the mystery really solved?

Paradise is an island set in an alternate future history filled with cryptic lore and even more mysteries. Examine bizarre relics to learn more about this world’s surreal history.

You choose who to accuse, and build a case to support conviction. Everyone on Paradise has a secret to hide and something to gain. Old friends become new suspects, forcing you to choose between the evidence, the greater good and your own beliefs. There are many possible murderers, but who you pick will define your own personal truth.

Let your personal computer and electronic assistant Starlight be your guide through another dance of an investigation. Collect evidence, record testimony and interpret the facts to form your own truth.

Solve hieroglyph puzzles on ancient nightmare computers to discover new areas of the island, find concealed evidence and reveal terrifying secrets.

One of its kind

It even introduced a new musical style to me! Colorful, text-heavy, rich on mythology and with one of the best original soundtracks ever.

1st person collect-a-thon / detective VN

A mix of 1st person collect-a-thon and detective visual novel. Completionists will have a field day with this one. Uncovering the plot in the final trial is fun and rewarding after running around for about six hours. I should have used fast-travel a lot more I guess. The character's movement could be more agile though, more control while in the air would go a long way. IIRC there were only two, switch-style, puzzles I enjoyed. The rest were all image-match-up style, very easy and samey. Seen one, seen am all. I turned the music down since it did nothing for me. Samey, easy listening pop stuff. YMMV. For a game based around dialogue I would have expected exceptional care when it comes to the texts. Yet there were a few typos. And in all places (10?) that should have said "its" it instead says "it's". Leaves a sour taste, since the writing itself is good. I especially enjoyed the judge's ramblings. The backstory, as conveyed through dialogue and item descriptions, is interesting. Alien gods and demons traveling through space always fascinate me. And there's a lot of waxing philosophical. Take it or leave it, it's optional reading. I sure wish you would have let me fly that car after everything was said and done. Maybe in the next game?

Doesn't work in non-wide screen

Hey devs, if your game if going to run in non-wide screen resolutions, then you should adjust your game's graphics to actually work with those resolutions, not clip text and squash UI elements so they cover each other up.

A Sucessful Experiment

Paradise Killer is the type of game that most people want when they are looking for an Indy game, something that you can't get in a AAA game. The game will immediately hit you with its experimental elements. It is very visually unique and I have not seen another game quite like it. The environments are 3D while the characters look like paper dolls. This disconnect really stood out and grabbed my attention priming me for an experience. Most games aren't good enough to really hold my attention and I will drop them after a single session. The stylized music in Paradise Killer was enthralling enough for me to pick back up my play through of the game. As a detective game you will spend the vast majority of the game listening to the music while you are putting your thoughts together. Having a great soundtrack elevates this genre. Even after three years the soundtrack is still one of its most memorable parts. As for the game play is is easily the strongest part of the game. Every detective game is made or broken by the deductive reasoning and exploration. The game integrates its interesting story and world into the game play. The world doesn't follow our own rules and you have to determine what is actually possible. If you don't explore you won't have enough details to determine the full truth of what happened. Even at the end of 14 hours I was still finding important evidence to tell subtle differences in what happened. The best part of the game is that it doesn't railroad you into getting the correct answer, you can give an incorrect answer and live with the consequences allowing you to set the difficulty. The game held a sufficient technical mastery such that it didn't have any major issues that got in the way of the experience. The game works well on an era appropriate machine and supports features which look even better on modern machines. The game even has some accessibility features that allow various disabilities to enjoy the game.
