I love this game. It's simple enough that any novice can be successful, but can also provide challenges to experienced wargamers. I've even used it to teach combined-arms tactics to friends with no military experience at all.
It's worth the money, on sale or not. A true classic...
Honestly without a doubt this is the game that launched Panzer Corps series I enjoyed the original Panzer and Allied General games but Panzer General 2 took it to a whole new level and then the Mods that came out afterwards was amazing made the replay value astronomical if your a fan of WW2 and like Strategy games this is a must buy I had to mess around with my PC to get it to play right but I did and it brought back great memories I can't recommend this game enough it's the game that brought Core units into the Genere and some people say it's a puzzle but if you keep and maintain your core units you can win and the concept of Blitzkrieg is breaking the line advancing quickly behind enemy lines. I highly recommend it..
Some guys are rebuilding PG2 with a complete new and vastly enhanced engine compatible with 64 bit OSes.
But first things first.
Just stumbled over the gog release of PG2. Thank god i read the reviews before purchasing this release. Miserably me just updated OS to Win7 64 bit. Quite a fail as i see now, cause i can´t play one of my favorite games of all time anymore. It eat away month of my life allready and still counting.
But wait there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Some guys are rebuilding PG2 with a complete new and vastly enhanced engine. I.E. you can use pioneers to lay and clear minefields, forest ambushes for infantry ... and as far as i know it works on 64 bit systems. This is the 3rd time I have bought the game over the years. I've liked it and missed it that much. Turn based combat. And you can learn alot about the history of WW2. There are a LOT of people out there still playing this game.
Loved the game years ago and love it again. Downloaded the game about 6 months ago and couldn't get it to run. Downloaded it again and have it running great after changing some settings. Running in Win7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1. Right click the Panzer General 2 icon on your desktop. Go to "Compatibility", check the box for "Run this program..." for WinXP SP3. Under settings check the boxes for "Run in 256 colors" and "Run in 640 X 480".
