Description
Pacific General is the fifth installment in Strategic Simulations’ Five Star General Series and explores the Pacific front of the Second World War. Taking control of Axis or Allied forces, you must strategically battle your way through the Eastern and Western front of the Pacific war, using a wide array of land, air and naval forces. You can not only experience the historical battles of the war, such as the Battle of Midway, but can also command an Axis campaign of victory and find out what might of happened had Japanese forces triumphed in the East. The hex and turn-based gameplay improves on its predecessors by taking the battles to the high seas, allowing you the freedom to focus on land, air or naval dominance. As the last installment in the series, Pacific General improves upon the gameplay and user interface of its predecessors and perfectly captures the elements that drew players to the series. The worst of the Generals series, the controls do not make sense and the control icons are not user friendly. Difficulty settings make no sense.

A classic that has aged well

This is a classic game that has aged well. It harkens back to a time when a game was pro american and not about to appologize about it (unless you play the axis side)

Disappointingly hard and unbalanced

Great game but literally impossible to progress on the Japanese (Axis) campaign past mission 5 with or without the cheat with the prestige bug. How am I supposed to fight a mission without any mechanized airdropped units? As a matter of fact - how the hell there are no airdropped units but light infantry, which gets mowed down like no tomorrow, while there were airdropped mechanized infantry and light tanks during the war? Talonsoft's West and East Front understood that and allowed you to airdrop all that. How the hell am I supposed to place all units, when there are no place to put some units? And so forth. Notably for the mission 5 - how the hell am I supposed to battle the entire Indian ocean fleet of the English and their entire land forces, wipe all of those out losing most of my forces in the process and still lose, because I didn't get to the opposite end of the map? That's ridiculous... Why nobody remembers the independence movements - notably Subhas Chandrabose in India and what would have hypothetically happened if the Japanese would have won the Burma campaign? Positive points - entertaining and has great potential with the combination of sea and land campaign, unfortunately not the entirety of the potential is used.
