This game is fantastic. It feels exactly like I always imagined a modern Descent would be. There are subtle tweaks to the classic formula to make it more playable for the modern gamer, but these in no way detract from the purist nature of the gameplay. Level/robot/sound design as well as the music are all full of call-backs to the best moments of D1/2/3. Cons: - some robot designs are not very memorable - level design, while VERY good, is sometimes repetitive from a modern standpoint - might be hard for a newbie to get into Pros: - classic Descent-style gameplay with welcome tweaks - controls/movement are VERY tight and highly customizable - great single-player mission with replayability - challenge mode is a blast - soundtrack is fantastic - upgrade system makes some of the weapons more interesting and customizable without detracting from gameplay - experienced Descent-players will INSTANTLY feel right at home

Ever since 1999, when I played Descent 3, I have been hoping for another iteration of the series. I was thrilled to see it pop up in my recommendations and bought it without even a second thought. I knew it would be good, and I was right. I do not usually replay FPS-type games. This one, however, I keep replaying. The controls are fantastic: highly responsive and intuitive. Actions, any action, makes one feel like an ace pilot. Bursting forward, snapping up an item while dodging a hail of fire, pulling off a 0.3 second twitch-play multi axis 180(yaw and pitch at the same time) turn, to then rocket away to cover comes easily. Five out of five. Love this game. I would recommend it to anyone who was a fan of Descent 1-3. You will not be disappointed in any sense. To newcomers, I welcome you to a legacy of superlative gameplay that has existed since the 90's. You, too, will not be disappointed.

A weird feeling to play something that looks much more modern, yet still feels like the original. The controls are responsive, no problems there. If you fail, you only have yourself to blame. The level design is basic by todays standards but I think that was intentional, and it works really well for a game like this. The enemy AI replicates the Descents feeling of uneasiness every time you enter a new area, and seemingly gets increasingly aggressive as the game progresses. Good variety of weapons which are different enough to excel in specific situations, but not too gimmicky to be useless in any. The game also adds an upgrade system for your ship on top of everything, to give you some sense of progression and an incentive to search for secrets and scour the levels for upgrade points. There's a few little nitpicks about the clarity of the HUD and maybe the UI could have been streamlined a tiny bit more, but they're quickly drowned out by the fun I'm having.

I am loving this game so far. Happy to grab it on a killer sale but I am a huge fan of the original and this game brought back those same feelings again I had as a kid playing the originals. Happy that the originals all have digital releases as well but this breathes all new life into this franchise. I adore this game. This game is out to kill you. It is no cake walk but it is worth it. There is just no other game like Descent before or since, so happy they were able to bring this out. Kudos to all involved you all NAILED it.

Good game all in all.. but after the 10-15'th enemy respawner wasted all my ammo.. it got tedious.. and with all the imortal\shielded respawners.. come on.. that's just lazy level design :/ I wouldn't consider it a worthy "Descent 3" successor, as I had more fun with that. (hope they remake tat one day...) But as a Descent remake.. it's pretty good.
