Classic Doom gameplay on a spaceship

This game is awesome and one of my favorite games on GOG. The gameplay is similar to classic Doom in the way that you are finding keys in laberynths but instead of fighting demons you are destroying ships on your own vessel which means you can move 360° changing the gameplay considerably and making it more challenging findging you way and the fighting as well. If you need help finding your way you can use a hologuide but it is totally optional. Also there are a lot of upgradable weapons and missiles for your ship to use and tons of enemies to destroy. The music is one of the strongpoints of the game, it is techno at its best and it suits the game pretty well. The graphics do a nice job on the explosions departmet but other than that they are pretty simple, and lack variety you will explore caves and hi tech enourmous ships but thats all. There are 15 levels, 5 difficulty settings and 12 challenge scenarios which will have you fight wave after wave of enemies until you die (or untirl the times up, depending what mode you choose). The objective of this mode is to score as high as possible and upload your score on the internet to see how well you do compare to others. If thats not enough there is a level editor included for you to create your own levels or download other fans desings to expand the games longevity, There is also a multiplayer mode but unfortunately is pretty dead by now. Pros: + 360° Classic Doom like action + Tons of upgradable weapons + Great explosions + Very good music + Levels are like laberynths but you can use the hologuide if needed + 15 leveles, 12 Challenge mode leves, 5 difficulty levels and level editor expand the replayability + Can be played with a controller out of the box Cons - Not too much variety on the mission types or enviroments - Multiplayer is dead As a concusión, it is a must play if you like 90s FPS and want to play them with modern conviniences like updated graphics and sound.

Fantastic for tunnel rats

This is a unique blend of 6 degrees of freedom, first person shooter, and secrets hunting. Doom had a refresh, and this is the refresh of Descent from the 90's. I for one, really enjoyed this. The 3D navigation and checking auto maps to find areas I need to explore is a lot of fun. It really tickled the part of my brain that likes to go into a room, blasting robots while jamming to head bobbing music. Speaking of which, the music and atmosphere are great for me. I bought the sound track to support the developers, and don't regret it. Played this game on the Steam Deck (Steam, not Gog version) and had a blast (using a Steam Community layout). My hud would occasionally disappear and I'd have to press a button to get it back, though sometimes I'd have to reload a previous save. Unsure if it's just me. The weapons in this game are pretty fun. There are plenty of power ups to keep them going. One of my favorite weapons is a weapon that richochets off walls (similar to Frag missile in Descent 3), but also has limited homing abilities. A lot of upgrades in this game allows weapons limited homing (primary and secondary). That's actually a Godsend, as from Descent 3, the enemy dodge and 3D maneuvering meant your weapons had super low accuracy. This addresses that nicely. The voice acting is superb, and the story is enjoyable. Some negatives of the game: 1. if you miss an upgrade in a level and move on, you won't have that upgrade point for the rest of the game. Not a huge issue if you miss some, as game is completely beatable without. 2. There are alien levels later on, which are OK. But you can't spend upgrade points. This meant the latter 1/3rd of the game, you have upgrade points that won't be usable until much later. Bummer. Overall, this is a great game, and on sale, very cheap. Would recommend to people who enjoyed Descent / want to try something new.

Makes me feel like a kid again

I grew up playing Descent, and while this is not a direct sequel, it is essentially the same game, and even refers to the PTMC in some of the dialogue. The thrill of picking up new weapons to fight against killer robots that become increasingly more deadly is unchanged from when I was 10 years old.

Now this is a DESCENT game!

Well, if you know Descent there isn't much to say. This is a faithful successor with the same feeling and better graphics. If you don't know Descent: this is a fast paced action game in true 3D. You can move in all directions, get confused, get lost in the winding corridors, learn to find your way, blast robots into colorful explosions all while enjoying a good soundtrack. Get ready for adrenaline overload! ;-)

Decent fans rejoice!

If you love Decent or just watching things blow up in zero G, this game is for you! The team behind this really nailed the feeling of the original Decent series down. The controls are fluid and responsive, the enemies are cool, the stages are well designed and make great use of moving in all directions and the explosions are fantastic. You can even upgrade your ship's weapons by finding special orbs in the levels which is a nice touch. Another thing I'm very happy to see are the secrets areas you can find in the levels. Not only can you find cool weapons, but they are pretty well hidden (which for me is a good thing). Kudos to the devs for making a game like this.
