Although I never did play the original Descent games, years ago (and I am old enough, I just never got around to it), I am glad I have bought this one, as it's really a lot fun. This is a very good action/shooter game and well worth the price -- although I got it on sale for half off. In any case, it's a lot of fun.
The level designs are interesting, the enemy characters (the auto-ops) are challenging but not overly hard to fight, and the action is pretty fast-paced and pretty intense. The weapon system is also well-designed. Overall, I would recommend this game to any gamer who likes these sorts of games.
It's also a nice bonus that this is available for Linux, as I much prefer gaming on this platform. Kudos to Revival for bringing it to Linux.
After playing just the training mission, it was like riding a bicycle again. Memory lane revisited for me. Never thought I'd see another game in the vein of Descent, even with a different name. How I have missed this genre. If you were a fan of the original three games, just stop reading my review and buy it. It feels and plays like the previous Descent titles, down the "F" button for flare and TAB for the Hologuide, or "Guidebot" if you prefer. Please support these title, it's the fourth Descent we've been waiting for since the third one in 1999 and 2000 (Mac release from GraphSim).
the game is cool, simple but fun. graphics are good but not that good, performance is not perfect, that is why i remove one star, the graphics of the game are not amazing to be under 60fps sometimes for no reason (no enemies, no fx, just in caves lol)
