Description
Whistleblower starts the story that led to Outlast, and stretches past the events of the first game to show the true final chapter in the story of Mount Massive Asylum.

Outlast: Whistleblower follows the story of Waylon Park, the software engineer under contract with the Murkoff Corporation who emails journalists around the world - including Miles Upshur - at the beginning of Outlast.

You'll meet Waylon a few weeks into his time at Mount Massive, during which he has been unable to even contact his wife and son thanks to strict security protocols. Having developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients, Waylon ends up setting events in motion that lead to the unmasking of Mount Massive's rotten core.

Decent, but flawed like main game

I'm gonna rate it the same, mostly because it has the same flaws as the main game. Unnecessary darkness everywhere, scripted enemies that make stealth almost irrelevant, broken 3D audio that just doesn't work at all to track enemies via sound. However, I liked a somewhat different perspective on the happenings, almost like what Opposing Force and Blue Shift were for Half-Life. You even cross familiar sections of the original game at points just the same, but most level design is actually new and that was actually pretty ok and didn't mind reusing of assets at all. Offered enough of extras gameplay that I think it was worth it. But I hold that opinion mostly because I quite liked the main game despite its flaws. If you didn't like the main game, you won't like this expansion either...

Amazing

In some ways tops the core game. It delivers almost everything that that one does other than length and feeling less like it's efficiently building to the climax and more like a series of encounters, albeit some of the ongoing antagonists here are more compelling. Much more in the way of personality, far more distinct designs. I mean if we're being honest even the ones who aren't actual twins are quite similar other than of course the comically gigantic one. There are a couple of times where they reuse assets and it feels as cheap as that is. Also, there are times where it feels more challenging when it comes to what still boils down to key hunts, and some of the solutions make you feel like you accomplished something to a greater extent. The protagonist is infinitely more appealing and it is devastating to read his horror at realizing that if he dies his family will be traumatized by it. It fleshes out some of the original. Certain parts go bigger and the fact that there is such a personal connection between you and what is arguably the central villain makes those encounters so much more hard hitting. Literally you keep struggling against the guy who catches you blowing the whistle, who actually works for the company and thus is responsible for some of the monstrous things they do where ultimately all of the variants are in part victims of it even if they also perpetrate violence. The level design is great and it's very interesting seeing other parts of the facility. There is one particular situation that leaves you with a distinct threat that increases the tension. The visceral horror is slightly less roller coaster, more properly built to. Some of what happens early on is not violence but anxiety making it more effective once the blood starts dripping. There are certain parts that stick with you for an extremely long time. Some of what enemies intend to do to you and why, not to mention what ends up happening to a non-zero amount of them after a lot of pursuits.

Way better than the main game

IMO better than the main game. The levels are less linear, the scenarios are more disturbing and i enjoyed the backstory of the different characters more than the one of the main game. It reveals more details on the lore of the game and has way less annoying repetitive tasks. Definitively worth buying.

Adding more to allready great base game

Took me around 75min on replay and I have to say its good expansion of base game. If you liked the base game, you will enjoy this as well. It adds more story and it has better ending imo than the base game. Soundtrack is even better. Two major chase enemies are also interesting addition.

More Outlast... and a great new slice.

This is an absolutely well made DLC. It really doesn't give anything from the main game away, but rather plays as a parallel story of another survivor of this madness: This time that of a man who saw the evil going on from inside and tried to warn the world what Murkoff is really up to, only for it to cost him having a turn living through the nightmare as punishment. And as such, this is perhaps an even more horrific, if much shorter slice of that Hell. If you are a horror game fan who isn't squeamish, this is going to be one hell of a ride. But again, especially during it's final act, this one is going to turn a few people away.
