As part of a covert experiment, the US military deployed a probe designed to prove the existence of a parallel universe hidden from our own. Although the probe successfully entered the alternate universe and reached a planet called Adelpha, its first crucial data transmission is mysteriously cut short.
The probe's unexpected demise triggers a disastrous chain of events resulting in the creation of a black hole, one that threatens to destroy the Earth. Unless the missing probe can somehow be found and repaired, planet Earth itself is doomed.
Vast and diverse continents to explore, inhabited by thousands of living creatures
An excellent mix of action and adventure, well-designed combat and complete freedom of movement
One of the best games of 1999 with a memorable and believable storyline set in the not-so-distant future

This is probably my all-time-favourite game in my 15 years playing PC games. It has a great plot, a very nice 3d graphic and the best music I´ve ever heard in a computer game, not even The Elder Scrolls or Guild Wars are anywhere near this quality. Now what kind of gamer will like this game? Really, I have no idea. But if you liked Vampire:Bloodlines, Arcanum, Fallout, Bioshock, Cryostasis (like I did), than you will enjoy this game too.
I am not really a RPG player. However I tried Outcast because of its online reputation. I have become a big fan of this game. My only complaint is the random crashes that occur in this version. Fortunately it is easy to recover from these crashes and of course you should save your progress. Overall the game is excellent. The story, characters, and music are all very intriguing. I recommend this even to people like myself who are not big RPG fans.
Had never heard of this game, absolutely loving it. Very in-depth story, wonderful music. The graphics are dated, but you will forget about that soon enough. Excellent adventure game that has totally sucked me in. Maybe the most interesting game Iv'e ever played. Try it!!
It seems these games are mostly revised by Enthusiasts. What can I say I am one too. I played this game over 10 years ago when it came out and quickly broke my disks. since then I have been on the look out for. All I can say is WOW the game is still amazing 10 years later.
This is one of those games I will never forget in my entire life, so do many others. Not only the graphics were outstanding back in 1999 (the water!), everything else was great, too.
Where to begin?
First, the soundtrack. I got shivers down my entire body when listening to it. The Moscow Symphony Orchestra recorded some of the best tracks ever in video game history.
The parallel world Adelpha feels so real. The characters got a daily routine, you feel with them, you even learn a - very simple - foreign language in this game. After a while and with a little help of the manual, you understand what they are talking about. Even though it makes no sense sometimes. However, this does not matter. It just feels believable.
The different landscapes got some nice architecture, very unique and recognizable and every area in the game has its own problems, which you get to understand the more you progess in the game.
Then the biggest plus: The story. Beginning with a great 7-minutes intro, the plot pulls you deep into the characters. Heck, the ending combined with its friggin sad music even brought me to tears when I first saw it. This game has one of the saddest endings you will find in a video game.
Gameplay is great too. Multiple weapons, items to craft ammo, a lot of sidequests, about 15 to 20 hours of gameplay if you want to see and solve everything.
I hardly desire a sequel or just a remake in modern graphics. Outcast deserves it. It did not deserve to be a big flop with only 400.000 sold copies. There should have been one 0 more behind it.
Chapeau, I never had so intense feelings about a game anymore until Xenoblade was released in 2011. Buy this game. Do it! You won't regret it.
