Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and improved to run smoothly on today's computers. The main improvements compared to the original version are: multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performances, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, part of the HUD redesigned to match higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, new launcher, native support of xbox gamepad, user-friendly controller configuration, a lot of bugs fixed and improved stability.
Please note: Outcast Classic remains available for download as a bonus goodie.
As part of a covert experiment, the US military deployed a probe designed to prove the existence of a parallel universe hidden from our own. Although the probe successfully entered the alternate universe and reached a planet called Adelpha, its first crucial data transmission is mysteriously cut short.
The probe's unexpected demise triggers a disastrous chain of events resulting in the creation of a black hole, one that threatens to destroy the Earth. Unless the missing probe can somehow be found and repaired, planet Earth itself is doomed.
Vast and diverse continents to explore, inhabited by thousands of living creatures
An excellent mix of action and adventure, well-designed combat and complete freedom of movement
One of the best games of 1999 with a memorable and believable storyline set in the not-so-distant future

old but gold in the best possible way!
this game is like a beautiful old car. the technic is old and you can see that, but it is, what so ever, strangely nice to look at and you really want to drive it. in this case you want to play it!
THIS IS A MUST PLAY!
I am a professional game designer and I've been using this game as an example of great conversation design for *years* - look at how the characters interact, the camera movement, and their knowledge of space. If you are a student of narrative game design this is a must play game.
This game STILL (as of 28/11/17) has many game-breaking bugs that WILL occur because you have no idea that things you do in the game will set you up for disaster later on with no warning at all but then you'll be forced to reload a really old save and this will happen over and over again until you want to punch this game in the face. This is STILL one of those games where you have to follow a walkthrough to double check EVERYTHING you do or you will screw yourself over and over again.
It's a real shame as beneath its many faults (pretty much every in-game mechanic is mind-blowingly clunky and backwards oh and THE BUGS) it's a pretty fun and interesting game that I really did enjoy playing until I had had enough of having to reload an old save so I could try to get past one bloody thing after another without the game breaking itself. Seriously, if someone is supposed to give you a quest item as a reward you shouldn't have to be forced to reload that section over and over until the person ACTUALLY gives you the VITAL, PLOT-PROGRESSING QUEST ITEM!!!!!!!!!! And that's just one of the many game-breaking bugs you will almost certainly face.
I give this 5 stars out of 10, it would get more like 7 or 8 if those bugs weren't such a HUGE problem still.
PS: Anyone who gives this buggy mess a 5 star review should be ashamed of themselves. People are extremely optimistic on GOG, to the point of delusional. Very few games deserve 5/5 and games this flawed definitely do not deserve anywhere near that high a score, as much as I like the game and its good points really are good but it is definitely not a 5/5 game!
Everyone should know this game — especially know that GOG has recompiled it to update the graphics settings.
The adventure part is good and the universe is awesome. The action system is of course a bit outdated (the stealth system especially can a bit clumsy by today's standards, often you're better off rushing in) but still quite enjoyable, and for a 90's 3D game that's a feat.
It's a bit short too, like all good games. :-)
I still have the old Infrogames box with the CD. To support fresh3D behind Outcast I bought it 4 times more gifted it two times on steam once for myself on steam and on gog.
The passion that Fresh3D has for this game is amazing.
The game itself is one of the best games I've ever played the atmospheric music still takes my breath away everytime. The dialogue is still as sharp and witty as it was aeons ago. Rich vibrant worlds with right this game can be called one of the classics. Every single development aspect of this game is top notch and it has managed to drawn me in every single time I've played it.
This game is wholeheartedly worth it.
Fresh3D? Sequel pretty please? <3
