Description

Of Ash and Steel is an immersive third-person open-world RPG created by a passionate team that values the essence of classic old-school RPGs and modern designs. Explore the lands of a once-prosperous island, hone your combat skills, and survive in the unforgiving realm of the Kingdom of the Seven.

Features

  • 45 hours of main story, packed with dialogue, well-developed characters, books, and side quests.
  • Two major factions to choose from — each with its own unique storyline, quests, and exclusive rewards.
  • Combat system features three distinct battle stances, multiple weapon types, and active skills.
  • A vibrant, open-world island with diverse biomes to explore.
  • A wide range of professions to master, including fishing, hunting, blacksmithing (with the ability to craft your own one-of-a-kind sword), alchemy, and more.

Master the art of combat

Of Ash and Steel offers a challenging yet rewarding combat system. You are not a legendary bounty hunter or monster slayer by default. Instead, you must master the mechanics: manage stamina, time your attacks and parries, and determine which combat stances and weapon types suit you best. It takes time and practice, but the more you play, the more both you and Tristan evolve and gain an understanding of what is happening around you.

Learn to stand up for yourself using different weapons, environments, and active skills. Tailor your fighting style to suit you, from the agile rapier wielder to a heavy armour-clad knight, or create something unique!

Shape the fate of the world

Immerse yourself in a story full of twists, humor, and discoveries. Step into the shoes of a man who is destined to become much more than just a cartographer. Gain strength, survive, and forge alliances. Prove that even someone who has lost everything can become a significant force that can shape the fate of the whole world. Talk to locals to learn about their daily lives, and help them with tasks. Watch how people’s opinions of you change as your character grows. Join one of the two major factions and complete its unique storyline to earn exclusive rewards. Your actions and choices will also affect the world and the characters around you.

Explore like you used to

Of Ash and Steel has no marker system, and quests won't lead you by the hand. Rediscover the joy of exploration and let curiosity be your guide; the world promises rich rewards for those who dare to uncover its secrets.

Listen carefully to what people tell you and pay attention to what is said in the quests to find your way. Read books and notes to learn more about the world. Mark interesting locations on your map, explore the island, and uncover hidden treasures!

Some solid fun!

Played a few hours, it has all the good thing so far from classic RPGs. Quests that include saying the right things, combat and survival that requires learning, choices in character progression, exploration without quest markets, good world design. And it looks good too.

Unfinished

The game has many issues, all or most of which should've been found and fixed during testing. The game is very clearly not ready for release. If this was a early access game I'd understand but this was supposed to be a full release product. Started nice enough but really falls apart fast. Debating on a refund, if the game gets finished and polished I'd like to play it but it feels pretty bad supporting this type of development.

Amazing Old-School RPG

This game is so fun and immersive. Enough control to make it feel like you shape your own destiny, but not too much to be confusing. You make decisions that actually matter, which adds to the immersion, im only like level 6 so far, but having a blast. These days I dont finish games very often, I can already tell that I'll finish this one. Graphics may be a little behind, but good enough. The combat feels good so far, havent unlocked many skills yet, so I'm still waiting to see it's full potential. 9/10 game. Amazing for a small team of Devs. Hats off to you guys!

Perfection

Honestly - this game is perfect. Have you enjoyed Gothic? You dont mind graphics or low budget jank? Give this one a try - you wont be disapointed. Music and world is great over here. Level Design is also great along with exploration. Combat is a bit rough - but its definetly rewarding - the same as leveling and progression. The story overall is quite... dull I would say not interesting at all - but the characters are good written and voice actors did a pretty good job - tho they repeat here and there. Graphicaly this game is really good - I would say the facial expression might look a bit off - but the rest is just beatifull. The same goes for music - its definetly inspired by Gothic I and II tracks - and it feels that way. As an RPG - there are definetly ways where this game could improve - aspecially the choices in dialogue/quests - but yeah there are some clever ways to reach certain goals or so.

Lots of potental

Overall, it's a very promising game with a lot of potental. - Visually, it looks dated as if it came out in 2015, and with indie dev team with the cost of the game i'm not going to complain with how it looks. - The gameplay at times can be clunky but the more you play and learn how to do something the more rewarding it is. -I like that the game doesn't hold your hand, it doesn't treat you like an idiot and paint markers everywhere telling you to go here or there, however I feel like the game needs to nugde the player in the right direction. If you get lost, which will happen a lot it would be nice to ask an NPC for directions or to have more signposts or more landmarks. Espcially in a city area where there are none or few of those things where it will be easy to get lost. The main character is a cartographer but he doesn't make use of the skill to start, it would be nice if you could make a map in game and draw out where you've been or points of interest.
