Description
An excellent action/RPG hybrid with very unique gameplay. Your name is Jack Mower, a 20th century dude who just happened to be sucked into the world of Nox via his TV set. The world is in danger and you have to save it! But before you embark on your epic journey you must choose your path: warrior, wizard, or conjurer.

Choose the path of a warrior, and you will be able to equip and use all manner of swords, battle-axes, war hammers, and chakrams - though you’ll leave the magical mumbo-jumbo up to the Conjurer and Wizard classes. An enchanted weapon is the closest a Warrior gets to magic but that’s OK, because magic is for sissies.

As a Wizard you will explore the mystical art of spell casting, ranging from enemy-confounding illusions to devastating displays of metaphysical force. You’ll also learn to set magical traps containing deadly spell combinations to thwart the unsuspecting foe. Although you’ll have to renounce the use of ungainly swords and armor in the name of your art, you will still be able to wield a staff as a last-ditch physical defense.

If you choose a Conjurer you will be able to magically charm and summon creatures to do your bidding. You can even create a magical creature called a bomber which can wreak sorcerous havoc on your enemies. You’ll also get plenty of experience wielding staves and bows to fend off the few enemies who manage to slip past your minions.

Throwback Thursday Recommendation

We share the earnest reasons that make a classic game so dear to us!

Recommended by Kilg0re_Tr0ut from GOG Stream Team: Nox is a truly underrated game from Westwood Studios. Often written off as a "Diablo-clone", this is really a unique quest oriented action RPG. You play Jack, a young man who (along with his TV) is accidentally teleported to Nox by the evil Hecubah, and it is your job to right things in Nox and eventually defeat her. The story and gameplay adapts to accommodate one of three different character classes you have to choose from, the Warrior, who can't use magic, but has access to all armor and weapon types (except bows and staves), the Conjurer, who can use bows and crossbows, can use some spells, but specialize in summoning monsters that can fight alongside them, and the Wizard class, who specialize in the vast majority of spells in the game, and can even teleport and become invisible. This adds tremendous replayability as playing the game with each character makes for a completely different experience, basically giving you three games in one. Easy to get into, Nox is highly recommended for fans of the genre."

super

Some people who are looking for a Diablo clone don’t like Nox, but that’s because it’s a completely different game. For me, it’s something between the old 2D Zelda games and Diablo. The wizard’s spell system, in particular, is unique. I also love the art style and sound. The deathmatch-style multiplayer was also something special, but now it’s hard to find someone to play with. Additionally, you should know that the rating refers to the game itself, not how it runs on new systems. The GOG version requires some work to even launch butI’m not knowledgeable about such things ;) and managed to get it running,

NOX !!!

An OLDY but GOODY from waaaaay back in the day. The nostalgia is palpable and the game is as fun as it was when it came out back in 2000. Not just another Diablo clone, this title definitely stands on it's own. Another cool feature is that it features an entirely different single player campaign for each character class. Make sure to run in compatability mode for windows98/me or it will crash on startup.

Blast from the past!

this game has gone with me for what seems like my whole life! well, thats not true but at least for the past 20years, whenever a few months have passed by i get the itch to play this forsaken garbage again and again and ofc again as there are 3 classes to play.. b4 i had a favorite but at this point i just play them all.. cant make any promises to those who did not struggle through the early Diablo games that this game is for you but if you are one of those who likes to just sit back, let your mind wonder and enjoy a hack and slash fastpased, actionpacked RPG experience then DO NOT HESITATE this game is just pure pleasure for me and i would give my sons college fund to anyone attempting to mod a co-op for the solo campaign DO this and ill kiss your feet and ofc many thanks to GOG for adding this westwood masterpiece to your ancient library.

I loved this game

I used to play this game all the time when I was younger. I love the level designs, the maps, the classes and everything in how it plays. It's a fun & funny game with a lot to offer. When it comes to top-down action RPGs, it's worth owning. I especially enjoyed the Quest mode with the blue button when I was younger. Always had something to do, levels to grind and a lot of fun. I really wish this game had more love, it would be really nice to see a modernized version of this game with an equally good design and play.

A nice little action RPG!

This is not one of those pompous games that promises too much and then you find it disappointing. In short it's a highly entertaining cute game, so if you're just looking for an RPG that fund without getting immersed too much, this is for you, I loved it!
