NO DROPS IN GOG VERSION
Just be aware that there is no way to claim drops in this version of NMS. Despite that, is a great game with no DRM.

Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man's Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.
In No Man's Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again.
Play with all major updates since launch: Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises, NEXT, The Abyss, Visions, the 2.0 BEYOND update, Synthesis, Living Ship, Exo Mech, Desolation and the 3.0 update, ORIGINS, Next Generation, Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, Frontiers, Sentinel, Outlaws, Endurance, Waypoint (4.0), Fractal, Interceptor, Echoes, Omega, Orbital, Worlds Part I (5.0), Worlds Part II, Relics, Beacon and VOYAGERS (6.0).
And now with added Cross-Save! No Man’s Sky now supports Cross-Play and Cross-Save between a huge number of platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox One and Series X/S, Game Pass, GOG, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, PlayStation VR 1 & 2 and PCVR.
Available for PC and Mac (see recommended and minimum specs for details).
An epic voyage to the centre of a shared universe awaits, allowing you to explore, trade, fight and survive alone or with friends.
At the centre of the galaxy lies an irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you'll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.
Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.
Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards.
Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.
The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own...

Fun after the updates
This game has really opened up since the big updates earlier in 2019. It went from a no go game to a rich world with a lot of fun things to do and with so many galaxies and systems you could literally play this game your whole life and still be finding things no one else has...literally!

Minecraft in Space
NMS is a giant sandbox game. No clear goal and minimalistic story and lore, are a turn off for many people. But if you like sandbox games like GTA, Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls, etc. This might be right up your alley. The current iteration of the game also has a strong emphasis on survival (including a Permadeath mode). Mindlessly strolling over a beautiful alien planet gathering resources can be a relaxing Zen experience. Ordering your fleets to gather riches and power, gives you the feeling of accomplishment. Building gigantic and highly personalized bases on planets, gives you the opportunity to express yourself. if you are bored in NMS, you lack imagination. Go build a dance club in your base and create your own music. Or create a race track over, under and trough your base. Find a planet with a rare biome and build a base with a nice view. Race around the stars to find YOUR perfect system, and give every rock, plant and animal an unique name for all to see. Pros: - diversification: whether you want to explore or build, you have many different ways to do that. - free updates: even 4 years after release the game is still getting updated and expanded - cross multiplayer: you can play with your friends across ALL stores and platforms - seamless VR: i can not confirm this, but i have been told that NMS is amongst the better VR titles Cons: - high price: got it for 30€ on sale and i still felt a little bit ripped off in the first few weeks

Waiting 2.5 years to play
I remember the game being announced and being very excited. I remember launch in 2016 and being very disappointed in the reviews. I recently saw the Beyond trailer and thought I'd finally give it a chance. (Beyond patch hasn't dropped yet) Bought it on Friday and put 25 hours in this weekend. It's good! It's mostly chill, but has it's moments. the discovering is fun, and seemingly keeps going. Picking up new words all the time and seeing dialog filled is is oddly my favorite part. (I want to know what that weird Krovax just said to me!!!) The base building is satisfying. The flying is fun. There's still more to the game for me to experience as well. There are of course some bummers about the game. It can be lonely, researching base upgrades takes a while, and OMG Inventory slots!!! overall it's a high side of 4/5.

A fun colorful space game worth playing
that you can actually play right now. Best of all, if you're not a fan of interacting with other people you can play the game offline so you never have to. To clarify, there are some settings you can check to allow you to play online and not see other people. There's something for everyone, exploration discovering new minerals and creatures, there's taming creatures, you can now ride creatures, you can get different spaceships oh, you can build bases both on land and underwater. tl;dr. Try it
