Someone doesn't understand strategy
The game starts ok if a little strange. Quickly it become a wave of 2D sprites that fade into the background in a blocky cavern...over and over and over. If you could get it for $7 it might be worth your time, otherwise I would pass. I am not sure where this great nostalgia factor comes from, but in my book a crappy graphics game is just that, not a nostalgic romp thru a time that never existed.

Very great doomclone styled game
As of 3/31/21 this game is absolutely playable. if you like old school shooters, you will like this game too. If you like doomclones but get nausea playing them, this is the game for you. i have this problem with doomclones and dont have that problem with this game. my favorite thing about this game is that it respects your time: levels are short and sweet. none of the gigantic labyrinths that open up monster closets whenever you pick up the red key, which you need to get the blue key, to get the yellow key to exit the level and each of these items are on opposite sides of the map from each other. this game has keys but they are handled in a way that it wont give you a headache running around the level. You dont have to hump every wall to find secrets either. They are indicated by something for a good chunk of the game, but i wont spoil what that indication is, and in later levels they start hiding secrets in different ways. you collect money instead of points, which you can and should use to upgrade your character in various ways. levels are randomly generated afaik. not full randomization but prebuilt rooms connected randomly. works very well. you collect weapons as you go, all weapons can have varying loevels of quality, levels above normal have random stat buffs/debuffs. you can only take one weapon with you at the end of the level. keeps the game-play interesting. can get some crazy guns. can also rarely spend money to randomize weapon stats, which is a gamble. The only thing i dont like is that some areas have are very tall, and it can be hard to see enemies if you are at a significant angle to them, as enemies are sprites and always remain perpendicular to the floor. the description for the game is very accurate.

A night(mare) to remember!
Nightmare reaper is a compromise: stuck between old and new, rogue-like and story (sort of) driven, Fps arena and old school...Doom and Borderlands? Basically, it's an old school ( I prefer the term Doom-like) FPS with an interesting take on loot-shooter mechanics: complete levels after levels( there are, like, a TON of them) finding inspired weapon ( and sometimes inspired means the exact same weapon from a different franchise) and upgrading your character through minigames ( much ''inspired'' from the old 90' Nintendo's portfolio). Gameplay wise, it's a old pixel doom-like but with a more focused ''three dimensional movement'' freedom, which includes platforming session. This liberty of movement is actually quite an interesting choice, since the game does provide with multiple options. Plus, at the end of each mission, you go back to the main hub, where there is also an arena mode. As said before, there are also a loot system, with different weapons, some unique, some from new and old games ( Just two hints: aliens ( of gold) and ''For the Emperah!'', nicely surprised by them) which you can take from level to level. Plus there is also three ''upgrade'' system ( again, this game takes the word cameo to the next level). Besides that, the soundtrack is composed by the same guy that made the ones for the modern DOOM, so you can be certain that the music is purely rock-ntastic. Meanwhile, the story.. there is a little bit, and it's dark ( I mean, the game isn't exactly hiding that) and serves its purpose, and the graphics.. are maybe the least interesting to talk about, but still there on point ( considering the this game's settings). Downsides? although the game was made to be re-playable, I must admit that at the end I was a little bored for the repetition of game mechanics ( not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but for me it was). So, worth it? goddamn YES. jumping around killing demons is fun! Don't sit this one out! ( or, in this case, Sleep ;) )

Great mashup of genres!
I’ll keep it short: The game is a mashup of a few genres; Classic FPS, Roguelikes, RPG’s, and a drop or two of horror. The combat feels great for the most part, with different weapons feeling quite unique and fun to toy around with. Weapons can drop from chests and monsters, and with varying rarities, they can come wither several different modifiers which spice up the combat significantly. Oh and…. Grappling Hook…. 5/5
