Description
At the dawn of the 22nd century the conquest of space and the colonization of the solar system has been taken over by several huge and ambitious megacorporations. Although extremely delicate and vulnerable, a balance is maintained by these companies. It has now been 60 years since the terrible catastrophe that befell Noah's Ark, the first colony ship of mankind.

On the very edge of the solar system the companies make a discovery which will shift the technological advantage and upset the balance. And so a new conflict is born: "The Jupiter Incident". You are Marcus Cromwell, a young but already famous captain. With your legendary spaceship Stiletto you find yourself in the middle of the conflict.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is one of the few examples of a TFS: a Tactical Fleet Simulator. The strong, elaborate story takes you from mission to mission and allows different approaches. It’s up to you which tactics you choose to bring each mission to a successful conclusion, although you can lose a battle and still go on to keep fighting in the war. A reward system enables you to repair, upgrade and enhance your ships depending on the approach you chose. Mission briefings let you roam through an unbelievably accurate 3D animated star map system.

Are you up to the challenge of saving a galaxy?

Time is wasted

The entire time you hope you can actually DO something in the game. You find the game won't let you. Why? Simple, everyone has weapons in the game that do nothing at all. There aren't any tactics at all either. You basically are told by the game where to go. You go there and pretend to choose your stockpile of weapons. Then you get to move once and sit for an hour while "enemy" ships circle you and go "PEW PEW PEW!!" and then after another hour of this non-sense, you kill them and start again. This could not be a worse under exaggeration of this title. You do a lot of sitting and watching the light show they call a video game. There are no tactics whatsoever because the "new" weapons are equal to the shields every new level. So had they not even bothered giving you the option of choosing "new" guns to choose from to beat the next level, it would not have mattered anyway. You really just sit in one spot and wait until the light show is finished. Frankly that is poor design.

Great game

Great game. In many aspect it can even beat Homeworld, in my opinion. Full use of the 3D space, nice visuals, good sound, relatively slow pace (you can't really expect huge spaceships to be agile as birds). Why only 4 stars? Because of the Nav point creation mechanism. It sucks vacuum. For the tactical simulatior this part is crucial, and, unfortunately, it sucks. HW 3D control (and, from more recent examples, EVE Online tactical overview, though you can't really control the ship with it) was made way better.

Interesting gameplay.

I played this on my old dell B110 desktop back in the day. It was a buggy mess then but my favorite part about it is the ship management. You can upgrade your ship with different weapons and systems, and control a small fleet, each having its own purpose. The missions are pretty short and the story isnt mind blowing but I really enjoy this game. My favorite part is controlling the specific subsystems and being able to target those of your enemies.

One pearl of the golden age of gaming!

The game has a compelling storyline, a believable world, mostly good (some corny, i admit) characters and their development in it. It´s gameplay, as a tactical space-opera, was almost unique, with challenging missions, in which some have had to be restarted and with a little bit of thinking and planning mastered. In a second playthrough though, on the hardest difficulty, you cut through the enemies like a hot knife through butter. The game has it´s flaws, but the overall experience makes it a 5 out of 5 stars.

Great Game, Errors All The Time Though

This is a great game, truly amazing and considering that it's almost 20 years old, the graphics are absolutely amazing. It's challenging with an indepth and amazing campaign. Sadly, there's a lot of errors now. Specifically around the saved games, I find if I fail a mission I cannot restart, it errors and I have to restart the entire campaign. If i save the game for the night, I cannot load up the save in the morning (neither the auto or manual save) so yet again i must restart. Great game, but just does not work on windows 10.
