Description
At the dawn of the 22nd century the conquest of space and the colonization of the solar system has been taken over by several huge and ambitious megacorporations. Although extremely delicate and vulnerable, a balance is maintained by these companies. It has now been 60 years since the terrible catastrophe that befell Noah's Ark, the first colony ship of mankind.

On the very edge of the solar system the companies make a discovery which will shift the technological advantage and upset the balance. And so a new conflict is born: "The Jupiter Incident". You are Marcus Cromwell, a young but already famous captain. With your legendary spaceship Stiletto you find yourself in the middle of the conflict.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is one of the few examples of a TFS: a Tactical Fleet Simulator. The strong, elaborate story takes you from mission to mission and allows different approaches. It’s up to you which tactics you choose to bring each mission to a successful conclusion, although you can lose a battle and still go on to keep fighting in the war. A reward system enables you to repair, upgrade and enhance your ships depending on the approach you chose. Mission briefings let you roam through an unbelievably accurate 3D animated star map system.

Are you up to the challenge of saving a galaxy?

Finally!

I game of epic proportions has arrived! With what I think has fantastic storyline and game play topped with good sound and graphics mean that I will defiantly be adding this to my library. I did have problems getting my original game cd to run on my pc so I am hoping that GOG have done their magic on this little Gem and I look forward to wasting all my time on it :). Defiantly worth a try if you haven't tried this game.

Nexus: The Cock-up Incident

First and foremost, this game (like so many others!) breaks the cardinal sin of space game design by making interstellar travel hopelessly dependent on what I like to call "cosmic convenience", which in this case is a convenient network of wormholes that just happens to connect the star systems together. What annoys me even more is the fact that NPC's talk about this bullshit logistical weakness totally straight-faced; on the level where you first witness the "interplanetary drive" in action, the lead scientist on board your ship spouts something along the lines of "that should not be possible!", to which my response would be to throw him out the airlock and tell him to go to Egosoft, where he belongs! The game claims to feature "realistic planetary orbits" which, in practice, is only ever seen on the between-mission briefing screens because stellar objects are nothing but skybox textures in actual gameplay, which gives you a great sense of going NOWHERE! In combat, your control over the ships under your command is bar-of-soap-in-bath loose at best because the AI keeps forgetting your orders, forcing you to reiterate them every 5 seconds but even when they're carried out, they're done so as vague suggestions instead of direct orders. Then there are the piss-weak, lacklustre, rock-paper-scissors weapons that just make battles drag on and on until their exact firing rhythm gets stuck in your head. There's also very little imagination in the ship models, a fair few of which are just blatantly ripped off from Babylon 5! The only enjoyable moment of this game, for me, was when I saw my douche-bag admirals' ship get destroyed, until I found out in the next briefing that the arrogant sod had survived. It was around that time that I'd had enough of this rubbish and called it a day.

FAECES! And CENSORSHIP!

My previous review for this game is the SEVENTH example, that I know of, in which my reviews have been "quietly removed", for no reasons, nor notification from any GOG moderation staff. "Coincidentally" one of the others was a game from the same developer as "Nexus" here, that was my review for "Imperium Galactica". One common theme is that they were all 1-star reviews. Except for one 2-star review that was also removed. Another common theme is the use of the word "faeces" in the review title. But that is not a "swear" word. Certainly NOTHING like compared to the bad language in hundreds of other reviews that have NOT been censored. I am a thinking of submitting a formal complaint to GOG about it....... even if it is something as mudane as a simple glitch. This deleting of my reviews has been going on for 12 months now though. Someone, somehwere has a grudge I think. As for the game, why should I bother making the more effort than to simply re-state that it is a truly awful game, the awful UI and extreme difficulty being the main reasons? I expect this review to only "disappear" again....... some of my reviews I think HAVE been removed more than once now.
