Description
At the dawn of the 22nd century the conquest of space and the colonization of the solar system has been taken over by several huge and ambitious megacorporations. Although extremely delicate and vulnerable, a balance is maintained by these companies. It has now been 60 years since the terrible catastrophe that befell Noah's Ark, the first colony ship of mankind.

On the very edge of the solar system the companies make a discovery which will shift the technological advantage and upset the balance. And so a new conflict is born: "The Jupiter Incident". You are Marcus Cromwell, a young but already famous captain. With your legendary spaceship Stiletto you find yourself in the middle of the conflict.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is one of the few examples of a TFS: a Tactical Fleet Simulator. The strong, elaborate story takes you from mission to mission and allows different approaches. It’s up to you which tactics you choose to bring each mission to a successful conclusion, although you can lose a battle and still go on to keep fighting in the war. A reward system enables you to repair, upgrade and enhance your ships depending on the approach you chose. Mission briefings let you roam through an unbelievably accurate 3D animated star map system.

Are you up to the challenge of saving a galaxy?

Solid game, teaches you skills!

I just finished the game with no cheats and not using guides from the net. I have to say that it is possible without frustration and it is a lot of fun. But be warned, this one is a challange! It requires certain skills that require some learning, like finding your way around in a 3D space on a flat screen. Yes, I am talking about stealth missions, but not only PROS: - I did not encounter a single bug in the game - Different mission types: battle, stealth, solo - Every mission, even if it seems impossible from the first glance, has a way of beating it. Just give a few tries and you'll see how easy they could be - Pretty pleasant story - Graphics are really nice CONS: - Tutorial does not explain all the useful functions. Especially the ones needed to beat stealth missions. You can set up your own nav points with "N" button and that is a game changer. However you practically need to find it out yourself - Managing lots of ships reqires pausing in a late game. You are unable to sort them via group assignments so you need to scroll the list a lot And people remember "Aquamarine" is not as tough as it looks :D. Good luck!

Very Difficult!

I completely agree with the "Mumb00" review and i'd like to add: Beautifully crafted game, environments are stunning. But as said, stealth missions are so difficult that they are deal-breaker for me. I have restarted the game 3 times in 2-3 years periods and have never been able to finish the game until now. all i say is, pity, it could have been so great.

Not your usual RTS

Jupiter : The Nexus Incident belongs to this kind of game that deserve more recognition. Unlike Homeworld or Starcraft, you don't have to manage a base, collect ressources...Here you are "stuck" with you ship and your fleet, and it's up to you to equip them accordingly to the mission. Beware ! Lose one ship and it will be gone for the rest of the game... As you have guessed, Nexus is more focused on micro-management (you can pause the game, select manually which weapon you want to use...). If, at first glance, the interface seems daunting, don't worry, the 4-5 first missions act as a tutorial to make you learn the basics and, if it's not always intuitive, you get used to it quickly. But the main course of the game is his huge story, spread across 26 missions. Even though it could have been shortened (sometime the story becomes confusing, some story-arc are not really necessary...), you really feel the developers enjoyed creating a mythology, new creatures... A bit of warning (apparently it has been of flaw for some), the pace of the game is really special, since you are always in space, you'll need to get use to ships slowly stopping, moving...Personally it didn't bother me and sometimes added tension to some missions. So great screenplay, great gameplay, great graphics why not 5 stars ? If the mechanics are quite clear, the loadout screen is a bit cryptic, as well as the resources point you're allowed to spend. Same goes for the leveling, which is pretty useless (I won 2 levels in the whole game...). There is also a huge difficulty spike in the 25th mission (I won't spoil but be prepared to reload A LOT) and the last one has a tricky moment... Also, if Nexus has been patched for nowadays computers, avoid to tick the screen calibration to x1.4, otherwise it will hide the timer on some missions. Finally, for french users : beware the translation has a lot of typos and subtitles are sometimes missing. So nothing that could stop you trying this game.

Tight and Stylish Spaceship Sim

I like the Homeworld series, but as much as it does have responsive controls I often feel like I watching other pilots do their thing rather than commanding ships myself. Jupiter Incident is space ship combat like I've never seen: real time with pause with flawless precision. This is the kind of game you can zoom to any ship you command and tell them exactly what you want done, like prioritizing enemy systems. You can decide to blow up only the weapons on a ship and then send your marines in to capture it. You can target the hull and blow it to pieces. You can avoid scans until you're right on top of enemies to sail under their scanners and get the first shot. You really do at last feel like that guy in the captains chair shouting stuff like 'launch all fighters!' and 'target the shield generator!' Apart from this its fully voice acted and there's a weird but very deliberate section between each mission that will not only replay any cutscenes and messages but also show you your fleet, your progress to new levels of mastery, and your specific location in the universe. The story is an intriguing war of information and secrets between mega corps which is nothing new but charming, and thankfully the characters are likable enough. Music is atmospheric and not monotonous. Sound effects punch and even change in pitch depending on how far away you are from a battle. Great stuff! Graphics only falter a bit with some low rez asteroids, but they're far in the background. Everything else is crisp and chunky and make beautiful fireworks when you slam them with lasers. I was expecting some kind of managerial sim from the screenshots, but this is user-friendly space combat and easily my favorite now in the genre.
