I understand that game pad is the way to play games, and twin stick shooters like this one are the best played by game pad. But making mouse aiming harder on purpose is a cheap move. When I play on PC, I want to play with keyboard+mouse.
Don't get this game if you don't have game pad, or want to relearn for shitty mouse aiming that will not help you in other games.
I love shmups (shoot 'em ups to the uninitiated.) I love Eugene Jarvis (Defender is my favourite game of all time.) I love what HouseMarque have been doing in the shmup arena (no pun intended) over the last decade. When I heard that HouseMarque were working with the industry legend Eugene Jarvis to create a spiritual sequel to Robotron 2084 (Jarvis' seminal and, most would say, best work) I was excited.
Now it's finally out and I've got to grips with the, easy to pick-up, but challenging to master, controls. I have fallen in love with this ultra-fast paced arena shmup. HouseMarque have taken everything good from Eugene's previous works and mixed it up with other popular tropes in the shmup genre. Added a heap of their familiar voxel based loveliness and polished it to the nth degree.
This is videogaming in it's purest form. It never treats you unfairly, every death is justified by your own ineptitude to tame the beast. Challenge builds up at a very fair pace and gives even newbies and those whose fingers just don't operate fast enough to feel satified.
If you love shmups you owe it to yourself to own this game. If you've never played a shmup get this game you'll understand what the rest of us have known for decades. If you hate shmups then know that you are wrong, buy this game now and prepare to be converted.
Sorry to get technical, but it's worth knowing - Take the minimum spec offered on the store page this game (with settings turned down) will run a very comfortable 60fps on a moderate gaming PC.
Incase I forgot to mention it... B U Y T H I S G A M E ! ! !
This is a good looking and polished twin stick shooter with constant action. At the end of each stage is a challenging boss fight with some bullet hell sections. Your dash ability helps to get out of tight spots and there are some useful powerups to find. Overall the game is hard but fair. The big problem is the length, expect to get through it in around 1-2 hours. I wish I had known that before buying the game.
Nex machina is an arcade top-down twin stick shooter that really puts the emphasis of arcade part.
It's cyberpunk design and graphics are top notch and its old school arcade gameplay is one that really pushes the abilities of the player.
In fact, as a product aimed to fast paced action, it punishes the player who don't have enough skill and endurance to survive its hordes of enemies.
And that's where its great limitation is : it's difficult immediately become frustration since it puts you in a constant state of attention and actions through the course of the stages, where you have a limited amount of lives to use it (at least in normal mode) and where should you lose, it's back to the beginning.
However, If you are a fan of arcade bullet hell with some serious 80/90' vibes and in need for some serious challenges, welp it's time to get a controller, you won't be disappointed.
