What! A new NWN1 DLC!

I have played a slew of some great, and some not so great NWN1 fan-based modules over the years since it was released almost 23 years ago. It is great too see another commercial module DLC released. I have just initially started so, a more complete review will have to come later, but so far I have been impressed. I look back at the advances made since the beginning, notably The Enhanced version from BeamDog, but as well as the continual fan based updates that are still on-going, and it is truly remarkable. If your a fan of NWN1 then you should consider supporting NWN: Doom of Icewind Dale for the potential of further modules DLCs being released. And if there are issues (don't nickpick, just to nickpick), and we all know there is not one game out there they will not have some issues (hopefully no game breaking ones), I'm sure the delveloper as well as the rest of the community would appreciate the feedback.

Hideously unbalanced

I am very grateful for new content especially when it brings back familiar characters I love. But the encounters seem like they were put together by an amateur. AI for party members has always very limited so expect the brunt of your tactics to fall on the main character and there is very limited options as you are de-leveded to 10 and stripped of you gear. My monk is getting carved up. There is no temple for monk gear and I haven't found a potion vendor. I want and love more nwn content but can you make it a little more enjoyable?

More of a continuation of other modules

The module is marketed as a continuation of the original NWN campaing. But it's anything but. It's more of a continuation of other modules by Luke Scull such as Tyrants of the Moonsea etc. There are a couple of characters from the original campaign, and I litterally mean a couple, while there are numerous characters from Tyrants of the Moonsea, Darkness over Daggerfod etc. I was hoping that this would be the "Hordes of the Underdarl" for the orignial campaign, but honestly if NPC's didn't remind you constantly that you are "The Hero of Neverwinter" you'd never know that this is connected to the original campaing in any way. To add insult to injury, the main hook is getting your memories and power back , but you only level up to about 13 in this (vs lvl 17-20 at the end of the OG) and you never really get your equipment back, then are left with a cliffhanger at the end. Honestly it's not a bad module, but it's difficult to get over the "bait and switch" that this is. Marketed as a continueation of the OG campaing, to likely drump up interest and then giving you a completely unrelated storyline with a character that might as well be completely new.

Very well done Addition

This is a very well done Addion for Neverwinter Nights and worth the Money. The Campaign is made very lovely with a lot of Quality in Details, be it Connections to older D&D Games, the Map Layout, or the awsome new Music. I am glad and grateful this has been done. You could see this as a Neverwinter Nights X Icewind Dale in a very good Sense. I can really recommend it!

A bumpy but all in all good start...

1) Advertised as a long awaited sequel to the NWN:OC, it really feels more like a stand alone module story wise. Sure, there are some references thrown in here and there, but the module's plot would suffer absolutely nothing if those references were cut out. I understand tat DOID is only the first step in a larger narrative, which may in the future have more ties to the original campaign, but as it stands alone (I can not review content that doesn't exist yet, and therefore need to judge the module on it's own merit) - it's poorly tied in. Sure, you meet Pavel (the tutorial henchman from OC), and Sharvyn and Arin Gend. There is talk of some falling out between the protagonist and Nasher over the whole Aribeth drama but these are really trivial things when compared with what is actually going on in the story. The Ten Towns are under attack, and the BBEG has absolutely no connection to Neverwinter or our protagonist. Yes, there is the second plot (The Masked Lady) - but it is underdeveloped, clearly to become an overarching theme for the remainder of the Blades of Netheril saga. However, as mentioned before, that is still to come. I mark this as a negative. PART1/2
