Welcome back to Neverwinter!

Bards sing tales of heroes in ages past, but they rarely mention those that are yet to become heroes. One such hero is a farmer in the small village of West Harbor. Raised by the elven ranger, Daeghun, as his own child, our hero will embark on a grandiose quest against the King of Shadows. Neverwinter Nights 2 is the tale of his deeds. His adventures continue in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Our protagonist discovers that an ominous spell has fallen on him. A curse of perpetual hunger--one which can only be quelled by consuming the souls of spirits. In order to remove the curse, he has to travel to the Shadow Realm, which harbors dark secrets and tormented souls.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir gives as a breather from grand quests of destiny and epic ordeals. You simply assemble a group of four adventurers (either by carefully picking out each of their statistics and skills or by randomly re-rolling your characters until you find the ones that suit you) and go where the wind takes you. Just make sure to get a good look at the map as you will need it to explore the wide open region of Samarach and the Sword Coast. Then, yet another adventure: in an ancient and forgotten tomb you found an unusual mask. It made you quite powerful but changed your life into a living nightmare. Strange, terrifying visions torment your psyche. Every time you try to get rid of the accursed mask, it secretly makes its way back to you. There's just one solution: set sail for Westgate and discover the secret of the Night Masks in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete is an epic RPG set in the fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms, one of the most popular campaign settings of Dungeons & Dragons. Use all the wicked spells, feats, and prestige classes from the D&D 3.5 rules. Create your characters any way you wish, choosing from a wide variety of races and subraces, such as Tiefling and Aasimar. As if the pre-made campaigns weren't enough, you can take the reins and use the powerful Obsidian Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset to make your own adventures and share them with friends!

  • Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete includes the original game, and three expansions: Mask of the Betrayer, Storm of Zehir, and Mysteries of Westgate.
  • Create and host your own solo and multiplayer D&D adventures using the improved Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset.
  • Rediscover many familiar locations and reunite with your companions from the Neverwinter Nights series.
  • More than 100 hours of immersive adventure across four campaigns, all rendered in breathtaking detail.

Unpolished

Main quests are quite enjoyable, but when we start doing side quests it becomes painful. Side quests are showed only as textboxes and usually are really bad. Most of the time it is something like "find a thing or person". This wouldn't be as bad if there was no morality system (each character has personality type, like neutral or chaotic). With morality included those side quests become iritating. Example: My team meets parents and they say that their children went somewhere. They ask if I could search for them (and offer a reward). There are options similiar to those: 1. I will find your children. Poor little kids! 2. For gold I would do anything. 3. If it won't be too dangerous I might save them. So 1st option is good (my devil character will be iritated), 2nd bad (my druid will not like it) and 3rd is neutral (my dwarf will not like it). So pseudo-moral talks. It was terrible. And what I really meant was: I will kill all monsters and visit all places anyway.

An old gem like no other

NWN2 was, for me, the breaking point in CRPGs. First of all, in terms of gameplay it was a great game. The character customization was inmense. You could choose between plenty of races, skills, classes that could evolve in multiclass and special classes, great selection of items which could be customized as well and more. The combat was fine, nothing too impressive about the graphics and it was a little bit weak on the writting department but overall a very inmersive adventure with great pace and progress and fun missions and quests. You could also have your own castle with its own development and sidequests that would make the game much more interesting. The strongest point of the game though was the community support. Once you finish your campaign the tools to create content were unrivalred. I miss the times of those custom servers where people made their own roleplaying enviorements with the ability to use different sets of rules from other games like AOIAF, import their own models and interface and much more. I don't think we will ever see a game with such support from the community and this large amount of content creators.

10 years later, still my go-to RPG

Lets' dispose of the bad right away. NeverWinter Nights 2 is somewhat buggy. It’s been heavily patched, but you'll run into a few glitches and, occasionally, you'll have to reload a save since a character has not spawned; some mechanics feel a bit dated and the camera takes some time getting used to. The main campaign is filled with fantasy clichés. I believe it was intentional, but it lacks a sense of wonder and surprise. Now for the good part. Story and plot unfold progressively: you don’t go from nobody to world savior in one hour. Your progression in power and status is incremental and flows naturally. As threats evolve, as you realize what is happening and how you fit in a much larger story, the scale of the game grows, as well as a sense of danger. The characters you meet are memorable, as they all have depth. Can a tiefling thief find her place in a society that despises her? Can a dwarf balance his commitment to his clan and his vocation as a monk? Do the responsibilities of a druid stop when her masters go insane? Can a fiery, power-hungry wizard be reasoned with? Can a sociopathic ranger play well enough with others? The choices you make do not only define your favorite party members; they have consequences on whether someone is willing to go through hell for you or will betray you at the worst possible time. Demean a friend one too many time, and he might turn against you in the end. While combat is present throughout the game, situations are quite varied, as you explore strange places, rebuild a castle, prove your innocence in court, or act as a go-between between demons locked in a game of power and wits. Every good thing I wrote applies to MotB, which also improves on stability and performance, and takes the story in a darker, fascinating place, where gods battle each other and one’s morality is brutally tested. It really is a gem of an extension. NWN2 is a game I re-install regularly, and always play with renewed enthusiasm. Don’t miss out on it.

The Holy Grail of RPG!

Neverwinter Nights 2 is THE best RPG ever seen on PC. No Not only it uses the fantastic 3.5 Edition of the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset, but also it provides players with amazingly written characters and a fantastic story with a very unique twist. It is definitely not your typical "saving the world" story, but I am not saying more. The role-playing elements give players literally neverwinter possibilities. I mean neverending. See? I was trying to make a joke. The game constantly tries to make the time spent wit it as variable as possible - a superb minigame against a stupid bard, a castle management simulation, etc. The allignment system here finally gets its true purpose. You may begin as a neutral good character but you can end as a lawful evil one. There is tons of decisions which then lead to different outcomes with a real weight. Hell, you can even clap your hands with the final boss and side by side kill all your companion which you have been traveling with during the whole game. Insane! In this Complete edition there are also 3 great expansions included. - Mask of the Betrayer - fantastic story and interesting settings - Storm of Zehir - beautiul implementation of the D&D experience with trading and a possibility to end the game even a couple of minutes after the beginning (with a real ending animation and credits) - Mysteries of Westgate - shorter and a more traditional game than previous expansions but still a very enjoyable experience Just buy it and enjoy this holy grail of RPG!
