Description
Nehrim: At Fate's Edge (the predecessor of Enderal: Forgotten Stories) is an total conversion for TES IV: Oblivion. Explore the eponymous land of Nehrim and its dense forests and deserts, delve into ancient crypts and labyrinthine caves, and experience an unconventional, gripping storyline that unfolds beyond known patterns of good and evil.

How extensive is the world space and how has it been created?
The land mass approximately equals the one of Oblivion. However, in Nehrim the landscape is entirely hand-built and thus has a lot more variety in it than those forests in Oblivion.

How long will it take me to beat the game?
As opposed to Oblivion, the Main Quest, including 35 single quests, is to the fore in Nehrim. Our Main Quest isn't just much more intense than Oblivion's, but also more extensive. You can beat Oblivion in about 10 hours. This most definitely will not be possible in Nehrim. Additionally, there will be about 30 side quests.

What is the most profound difference to Oblivion?
The skill system. In Nehrim, you level up by gaining experience points. You gain experience points by killing monsters and most of all for finishing quests. This is the best way to motivate the player to play them. At each level-up you get "learning points" you can trade for skill upgrades at a teacher - just as in the Gothic series.

GOG has the best version of Nehrim!

Only GOG gives you the most up-to-date (final) version of Nehrim AND is fully standalone. The SureAI download is an earlier version, and the Steam version makes you swap between your Oblivion and Nehrim installations, and the switcher is rather temperamental! Please be aware that this game is running on a very old engine. If you want it not to crash, you should install the latest community version of xOBSE, and plugins like SkyBSA, Engine Bug Fixes, FastExit2, MenuQ, mod limit fix, NortherUI away (for controller support), NV anti-crash, oblivion display tweaks, etc. Get the latest Unofficial Nehrim Fixes, Nehrim - Bug Fixes and Updated English Translation mods. If you want it to look better, use Oblivion Upscaled Textures, Nehrim Water Mod, Nehrim Landscape LOD Textures by Xerus, and Oaristys' Revamped Nehrim (ORN) and the latest version of Blockhead. And if you want to use English Voices from Voice Actors and ElevenLabs, get the newly released Nehrim - Complete English Voices mod from Oblivion Nexus! And as for the reviewer not able to move, you need to equip a torch...

Great story if you are patient.

This game/mod was made by German SureAI company, it is on German but at least we got subs for it. They made several mods for ES games and it is amazing how they created entire world and amazing story. The story is very rich, and storytelling very long but if you don't have patience it can quickly become dull because the game throws at you a lot of information, plus you need to read quickly because subtitles are moving fast. It is a lot harder than vanilla Oblivion but not that buggy(it has same crashing issues) and the world and exploration are amazing, big variety of weapons and armor, UI changed as well. This is not for everybody, i have thousands of hours in Oblivion and i really enjoyed this mod/game. Many do not like Oblivion because of its quirks and bugs but for select few this mod will be rewarding. I am giving 5 star because it was worth it for me and this is my opinion. GG

Great game with middling/poor execution

If you have the patience, this game will give you about 100 hours of good enjoyment and about 40 hours of annoyance, frustration, cringe and eyerolls. Pro: - Interesting, handmade world that makes Oblivion and Skyrim look like canned spam in comparison. - Exploration actually feels fun and rewarding with fairly little "trash loot". Instead, you get interesting looking gear and even semi-worthwhile set boni. Don't let those distract you from upgrading your gear, though, they're not that grand. Just pick the ones that look best to you. - Notable improvements to combat and especially the magic, as well as much better balancing. - Small number of sidequests, so they won't get in your way. You are mostly encouraged to just go out and explore the world on your own. The game even locks off quest related dungeons so you can't sequence break. Really good game design there. Contra: - Bad techical state. From the unwarranted FPS-drops to the frequent crahes, this game is a mess. Game can run for hours just fine or crash every 30 to 60 seconds, with a whole bunch of crash triggers. REALLY puts a damper on the experience. - Massively overblown story setting to the point of ridiculousness. You WILL roll your eyes on a regular basis. - Incredibly hammy dialogue and characters, somewhat salvaged by the good to very good voice actors. I still celebrated every death of my companions just because it would reduce the future cringe. I couldn't get even a little attached to a single one of the annoying buggers. - Awful main quest design. It starts out fine, but after about the first third you start getting teleported all over the place without having any say in it. Then you will have to follow NPCs that run way slower than you and then stand still until you get behind them if you overtake them OR fall behind. One sequence of follow-the-NPC with nothing happening lasted 20 goddamn minutes, yes I watched the clock. You will BEG to get the teleportation nonsense back, trust me.

Excellent! With some tech instabilities.

This total conversion is decisively much better than Oblivion itself. It is balanced to be tough but that is by design. Is also true I am playing at Shadow difficulty. Either way, I am a few hours in and I am really enjoying the world. Character. Monsters and overall game changes over vanilla systems. There are some tech issues due to the engines age and tech. If you past them, is really engaging game. Grab the English voiceover from NexusMods.

The only reason to own Oblivion

Nehrim is the only reason to own Oblivion nowadays. It's far superior to Oblivion in any and all aspects: World building is coherent and hand made, full of secrets and fantastic vistas. Quest design is sublime, the story is unique and well told, freedom is enormous. I wandered around for dozens of hours and never even left the first valley of the game, it's really massive in scope. Absolutely brillant total conversion for Oblivion.
