War is Hell. NecroVision is a first-person shooter that takes gamers across the frantic battlegrounds of World War I and into a dark underworld of vampires, demons and dark magic.
Seeking adventure, young American Simon Bukner joins the British army in war-torn Europe of 1916. During a particularly ferocious battle, Bukner and his battalion are pushed into a series of dark trenches where they encounter mysterious phenomenon. As they move through the labyrinth they discover that there is a greater evil hiding underneath the battle-fields of the Great War — an evil that is forcing its way into our world and threatens to wipe out humanity. In the depths of this newly discovered underworld, Bukner must confront the dark forces and fight for the survival of mankind.
An engrossing storyline blends elements of a traditional war shooter with magic and the supernatural world
Players fight with authentic WWI era weapons, powerful magic artifacts and vampire powers
Hordes of enemies that include humans, demons and vampires
Massive, brutal boss battles
Intense, fast-paced FPS combat stands out from the trend of plodding shooters
Presentación curiosa, gameplay curioso pero la historia no tiene sentido (es como si faltase la mitad del guión) y los problemas de estabilidad y bugs constantes no me permiten disfrutarlo. Vale menos que una botella de agua en rebajas.
Playing this actually made me ill. The screen sahakes obnoxiously every millisecond and the game barely works. Controls are so bad it should be a crime and it looks like garbage. Not a single redeming quality whatsoever.
The game itself is very good. Other reviews have done a decent job of covering why you should play this game. That said, this specific release of this game has a major annoyance for me which ruins it. They force the game to output at the aspect ratio of your monitor (despite the game only having been made for the 4:3 aspect ratio). In my specific case this means the game is cropped (based on the HUD elements being cut off, such as the compass) and stretched. There is no way to disable this, not in game or modded. I know GOG, or the developer before releasing through GOG, likely thought this was preferable to dealing with annoying complaints about black bars but this ruins the experience. I recommend you play the game, but just know it will be forcefully cropped and or stretched with no way to disable the behavior (just like the Star Wars: BattleFront releases on GOG).
The first 5 levels of the game (first of which is more or less a cutscene) Is a budget wolfenstein in WW1, which is what got me interested in the game in the first place. After that, the game completely changes its setting by going underground and turns into a vampire themed painkiller. The problem is, it doesn't do either of them well and you will likely hate one of the two styles. Really felt like a bait and switch for those that were interested in the ww1 setting that the game presented itself as. Worse still, the writing is awful and the main character will not STFU with his constant one liner quipping and awful voice acting. Plus its also buggy.
I would recommend skipping it and playing the prequel, Lost Company if you were interested in the setting, and just getting painkiller if you were interested in the second half.
Crazy WW1 Story that has good action from early to mid-game, but outwore it's welcome for the final few levels. By this point you want the game to finish as it's just wave after wave of bad guys and you've already killed several thousand. I bought it on sale for less than a £1 and definately got my moneys worth.
