DOOM?

People who parrot the Doom gameplay - have you even played this? TLDR: If you're expecting DOOM game-play: Don't. This is more a mix of Serious Sam in cramped corridors with infinite enemy waves that spawn in a 20 foot radius every 3 seconds. More bullet hell than arena shooter. Watch game-play instead of the highly misleading marketing material. Just because it's frantic action against freaky enemies doesn't mean it's DOOM unless that's the only reference you can think of. Good: + Level Visuals, they're really great and I wish I had time to explore them in detail. Mediocre: = Soundtrack is alright but not noteworthy like other 40K games. Bad: - Infinite enemies that spawn around the player. It's impossible to clear a room and check for loot because the next baddie will have spawned behind you. It feels like every 3 seconds something spawns. - One of the worst UI/Loadout Screens in existence, it's baffling. Inventory can not be opened during game-play. You need to talk to different NPCs to access different parts of it... - Typical Unreal Engine micro stutters. - Head-bob and Screen-shake are so over the top I don't know if this is bugged or intentional. - Gunplay for a W40K game is pretty lackluster and a basic affair. Reload animations are meh. - Animations for characters/cutscenes is bare-bones that sometimes I wonder if some animations don't load. - The Dog which is featured as a companion in the Trailers is nothing more than a useless ability with a cool-down. Talk about misleading. - Some of bugs which need a game restart to fix (most annoying is the Character Model that clips in FPS). - Loot system feels almost tacked on. Which would explain why the UI is so terrible and inconvenient to manage. All in all I'd say it's a pretty terrible game aside from the visuals, even if you're a W40K fan. I've had better FPS game-play from 3$ asset flips. Patches can fix a lot so let's hope...

What a shooter!!!

This is the type of game that will put this studio on the map! 10/10! Anyway after MandaloreGaming review I was doubtful... I did not like "wall hacks" till later I found out that they are optional (stupid dog). Comparing it to Doom Eternal did not help either cos I did not like that game. But luckily after watching other guy LP the game on OldSchool difficulty I was sold! Good stuff: *40k setting with amazing atmosphere aka sounds/music/graphics/maps/enemies. *Fastest shooter I have seen in years! Reminds me of Painkiller or Quake 2! *Best movement I have seen in a 1st person game! GL trying to master this with gamepads lmao! *RPG elements - hub, character/gear development, chatter etc. Bad stuff: *No quicksaves, only checkpoints... *Some sounds could be better

Necromunda brought to life

As someone who loves the tabletop skirmish game, this was a must buy. I really love the vertical gameplay of Hired Gun, it's quick and brutal combat and it's stunning representation of Necromunda. Seeing Necromunda from the First Person perspective, rather than the birds eye view I'm used from the tabletop is awesome. All those little details the devs placed in Martyr's End and all over the levels are a true joy. The combat is while a bit janky, very fun. The doggo is awesome and I love the bionic upgrade system. It is so brutal, it is so Necromunda. This game is by all means not perfect, but it has totally blown me away.

My augmetic legs are okay?

Normally shooter games - especially modern ones - can only count on my passing interest. It is not a genre that manages to grab or hold my attention for long, unless the game in question is especially noteworthy or quirky in a good way. But when I noticed this game was made by studio Streumon of EYE fame I decided to give it a go, especially seeing it was steeply discounted at the time. In this game I was looking for a campy, janky continuation of EYEs DNA into the setting that always seems to have impassioned and captivated Streumons developers. I certainly got my moneys worth out of this game in that regard. From the grand and atmospheric level design to the mad power curve of the player. Bonus points for the extreme oomph-factor of the gunplay and the general mood and voice acting. I wasn't looking for a highly sanitised big budget experience and I'm glad I didn't find that, instead of a highly entertaining and skillfully crafted passion-project. If I have any single complaint, it would be that I'm too slow to keep up with the hectic pace of combat in this game. Playing at more than normal difficulty is unfeasible for me. If you have more skill with fast paced shooters this will likely not be a majour issue for you.

Excellent

Given the scrutiny automatically garnered from possessing the stigma of 'A 40K game' and it's subsequent expectations, this delivers well. Voice acting, game-play, story; all elements are acceptable justifications to run around and shoot things with a Warhammer theme. While this is not a technical landmark, nor anything particularly innovative, it is a very good game in and of itself. I have encountered no bugs, nor performance problems beyond what I would expect of my hardware. If I were pressed to make a comparison, I would say it is what you would get if you blended 40k with Ghostrunner. Lots of wallrunning, climbing, jumping and gunning. Generally, I'd say if you come to it without expectations, you'll be pleasently surprised with how solid of a game this is. It checks all the boxes a modern FPS is required to check, right down to the melee-kill-animations and slide-dodging. Certainly, it's worth the sale price, but likely not the full price. So, if it's on sale and you meet the minimum specs you are likely in for a fun, shooty time.
