Really enjoying this game! As others have mentioned, it's a modern take on the classic Impressions Games format, which I absolutely loved as a kid. Does a great job of providing greater control over some of the systems (player defined routes for walkers, ability to use caravans to move goods around, etc). Some of the classic mechanics aren't there (crime, building maintenance), but I personally didn't miss them much. I also would guess they'll add more pieces over time. That said, I do look forward to adding some voice lines and additional flair of personality for the city. But at it's core, if you played and loved any of the Impressions games when you were younger, you will not regret spending the money to revisit it in an updated format.

This is an amazing game. It makes me wish this company would go on to remaster Pharaoh, Zeus and Caesar using some of the new mechanics. I love how farms work as well as religion and supply chains. It is innovative and beyond beautiful.

Comparisons with the Impression games are very logical. But what many people do not seem to want to realize is that this game has a very different gameplay. Some people wonder... where is the challenge? Well, unless you are a semi-professional architect, the challenge is to build your city in a way your inhabitants will be provided with all their needs. With limited space, limited areas of influence and limited irrigation that is already some challenge. Why not add crime, sickness... Sorry , but in Pharaoh you could be confronted with endless thefts, no matter how many police boxes you built or how well employment was. For me, the absence of crime, fire and (please) collapsing risk is a breeze ! Please let's play this game for what it is. It is solid. It is not easy to get into, but it is really good.

tutorial doesn't really cover everything, and the UI is counterintuitive

Too much missing things currently: building don’t degrate without maintenance, no disasters/random events, building a temple doesn’t offer any real benefit except prestige -required to unlock trade with other cities- … The "most helpful review" currently on GOG says it all and is accurate. I wanted to see for myself, got the game with a good discount, played 4h and i’m waiting for updates now. Hopefuly we will have updates…
