Unfortunately this is a worse version a story-driven action platformer - that is, this game is worse than Steamworld, A Night in the Woods or even Momodora - which isn't a good game either. The difficulty is scaling like a pointless Mario Kaizo and the death counter is pointless, the ability gain doesn't make sense, and the traps become repetitive and boring after 10 levels. I played through 20 levels in the normal world and about 4 or 5 of them in the slaughterhouse, and unfortunately the game doesn't have enough story to be rewarding to continue playing through repetitively-designed similar-looking levels.
While the sound is perfectly relaxing and the animations are fluid, the rest is pretty much a disappointment - a major improvement would have been an actual storyline and having a better level designer .
It's not that the game wasn't well done, It just wasn't for me. Once in a while I enjoy playing a good platform game, but for some reason this one just didn't do it for me. It seemed sort of bland and unexciting ... not enough to hold my attention.
This game is telling you, no ordering you, with threat of violence to you and your loved ones that it is Super Meat Boy. Don't let it break you. Don't believe it's lies.
The programmers of SMB wanted dying to have meaning. They made it easy to do, unobtrusive, and entertaining. You got that replay at the end showing how many times you died before you got it right, and you felt accomplished. The devs of this game, made it tenuous, dull, and annoying. Boy does this game love to remind you of your failures. The color palettes change into even more upsetting versions that hurt your eyes and make you die even more. Then you make it to the end and just feel sad and angry that the next level is going to be even worse.
The most frustrating part for me is that you have to earn your abilities. But they're not cool abilities. It's crap you should already have...like jumping. Again, Meat Boy gave you the challenge, the tools, and let you figure it out yourself. Bree+ gives you no tools, demanding utter conformity that you beat the game the way the programmers stated, no other way. It's the equivalent of "YOU CAN DO IT, HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED!" vs. "YOU CAN'T DO IT ANYWAY EXCEPT MY WAY!" This game is that little kid who won't play sports with you unless he gets the position he wants. What a selfish game.
Match all of this with the pretentious storyline, ugly puke-green (unless you die too much than it gets worse) color palette, boring design, and artsy graphics, and we have a game that insists it's Ingmar Bergmann. Your not Game, your not! Your Uwe Boll on valium, and I hate you!
I for one am deleting my copy of this tripe. I'm embarrassed to say I paid for it because I thought it looked good. Furthermore, I hope the coked-up hooker my $2.99 helped to finance gave all of the devs a life altering STD. Serves them right for doing this to people. Shame on you Taw Studio, shame on you!
