I don't know why those hateful reviews pop, the game is not super beautiful or high end, but it is quite fun, and there are some great mods out there. At the price it is now (-75%), I totally recommend it.
Ps : I wish I was a game developer, but I'm not, and I'm probably not a "fanboy" since 1)I'm a girl and 2) I'm just a player who enjoys playing fun games in medieval settings where I can still play an heroine :)
I may be biased, but I love this game. It can be boiled down to a repetitive boring slog to get through, or it can be seen as an amazing simulation of medieval combat and diplomacy. I lean toward the latter. I have played this game too much over the years, taking over the whole map multiple times and enjoying so many mods and overhauls. Gekokujo is #1 for me, conquering all of Japan was incredibly difficult (until my armies were unbeatable) and satisfying at the same time.
If you're a strategy game fan, this is an easy recomendation.
This game set you in the late medieval ages at the fictional land of Calradia, where all lords magically can't die. There are six main fractions which will compete between each other in many wars. All fractions represent medieval civilizations across Europe and part of Africa, from freezing fjords of Scandinavia to hot deserts of northen African coast.
It is an amazing medieval sandbox game that will charm you in many ways. Although it's not a game suitable for everybody, because it's mainly about grinding your character and your own army. It could get boring sometimes. Anyways, I highly recommend this game, because of many ways, that you can play. You can fight in tournaments, hiring your own mercenaries, fight as a mercenary, being a vassal of kingdoms, managing your own fraction. With enough paitence all of this playstyles can lead to becoming a powerful lord of this lands.
Furthermore, this game is very easy to mod, that's also one of the main advantages of this game.
But all games have their disadvantages. It's hard at the beginning, which will led many newcomers abandon this game after just few minutes of gaming. You can expect many looses, but victories are very rewarding.
In my opinion, it's definitely worth playing. You should try this game, it will amaze you in many ways.
I was really hyped to get Bannerlord II, and when I did, it was a total let down. Warband is so much better a game in many respects. While it's graphics may not be as great as M&B2, the gameplay is far superior. I found myself uninstalling Bannerload 2 and installing Warband again.
This is my rainy day autism game. I played the demo for years (with a mysterious file added) then bought on Steam ,then I HAD to have it here so I could never lose it. Infinite fun. Just stab some dudes, maybe run a trade caravan, become a knight, declare wars, hunt down bandits, burn down villages. Then there are a ton of unique and interesting mods.
I'll play Bannerlord someday, maybe, when it's five bucks like this is on sale.
