Three times the carnage!!!

Yes this is the second updated version of MK3. I'm not going to sugar coat the difficulty being rough at times. But man this version blew my mind as a kid on PlayStation 1 back in the day. A better all-stars MK game than Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Someone had to said it, MKT is one of the best fighting games GOG has to offer hands down.

The definitive way to play MKT

Mortal Kombat Trilogy is often lauded as one of the best game in the series. While not the last in the 2D era, it's the last that utilizes 2D graphics and it has every character from the first MK game from 1992 up to UMK3. Bosses are now playable and also includes all the stages from from MK2 (1993) to UMK3, with a few stages from the first MK game. The most popular way to play MKT was on the PlayStation 1, however one of the biggest criticisms of that version was the load times, which made some characters obnoxious to play, like Shang Tsung, of which the game loads whenever he transforms into another character. There's next-to-no load times in this GOG version of the game. Shang Tsung can now transform into any character on a dime. The only issue I ran into while playing this port, is that the graphics are a bit glitchy when playing in windowed mode. It doesn't ruin the game, but it is a bit distracting. The biggest bonus of this GOG version is that it has Xinput right out of the box, so you can use most controllers and play the game with little hassle. Putting aside the technicalities of the port itself, the game itself is the definitive 2D MK installment... On a casual level. For those into comp play, most of the balance changes feel like band-aid solutions and even ignoring the bosses, there are some pretty broken chars like Noob Saibot and Rain. Frame rate might be off for some enthusiasts, though that can be fixed with a patch, and the graphics aren't arcade perfect, the char sprite are smaller than those seen in their arcade counterparts. However, MKT can be seen as a fun novelty for comp players, but it will be perfect for those who want more of a casual romp.

Definitive version of MK Trilogy

I assumed everyone was yanking my leg when they said this was the best version of MK Trilogy. Well, I can confirm, the PC version of MKT has become my favorite version, hands down. The gameplay, graphics, music, etc are all as great as all the others, and way more accessible. If you are looking for the ultimate MKT experience, this is definitely the version to get!

Excellent port of a classic

Before I begin my review, I need to address the misinformation in the most recent review. Yes, you can remap the controls — it’s in the Options menu. For those who aren’t familiar or are on the fence about purchasing, here’s what to expect: The game starts in fullscreen by default. Press Esc to enter windowed mode, and once the game finishes loading, you’ll be able to access the Options menu (it may be grayed out during load). From there, you can remap controls as needed. The default control layout actually makes sense: A = Low Punch X = High Punch Y = High Kick B = Low Kick Now, for those buying this hoping for smooth controller support across all titles: MK1 to MK3 use DOS versions, which naturally come with limited controller support. That’s a limitation of the original platform, not GOG. It would’ve been great if GOG offered the Midway Arcade Treasures version (which includes the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection), but that was delisted from Steam over a decade ago — so don’t hold your breath. As for Mortal Kombat Trilogy (MKT) — this is the version you want. GOG’s version is pre-patched and works out of the box on modern systems. If you have the original Windows 95 release, you’d need the Kommunity Patch to even get basic controller support and compatibility working.
