In a distant future, Mankind has nearly exploited all of the natural resources of our exhausted planet. As various resource wars flare up, nations begin forming alliances in order to arrive at a better solution than simply fighting to the last. A solution is found: the MoonBase probe. Remotely controlled by a single pilot, the probe lands on the surface of any available planet, replicates its central Hub, and expands across the planet in search of life-giving energy. The already fragile alliance crumbles as its leaders recognize the potential of the probe. Four factions arise from the ashes of a fallen alliance--each with its own objectives. What started as a tool to harvest resources has now been forged into a deadly weapon of war. You begin as a pilot for your chosen faction. As you operate your Hub remotely, you wage a campaign across each planet, searching for energy-rich pools while destroying anything that would dare to take your hard-earned resources.
Moonbase Commander is a simple to learn, difficult to master turn-based strategy game where you are fighting for the limited resources of a planet against either the AI or other players. If you are feeling creative, you can make customized maps with the included Map Editor.
A tough AI that gives strategy veterans a run for their money.
Easy to learn, difficult to master gameplay keeps the action fast and exciting!
Includes an exceptionally easy-to-use map editor.

After many, many years of gaming this still is one of my all time favorites. So easy to learn it leaves you many hours of mastering your skill. Plus games don't stretch too long. You can do 2-3 rounds with an evening with your friends and everybody gets to bed before midnight :-)
What the hell is it with page after page of solid 5 star rave reviews?
This game is NOT, repeat NOT worthy of this. 3 is the maximum. To be fair the game is a pleasant one, but it is far too simple. Not enough units, factions, terrain types, game rules - not enough anything TBQH! I cannot believe this is a 2002 release..... I'd have guessed at 1982! I've had TBS games on the Commodore 64 with more complexity, back in the 80's. It also commits are very, very bad sin - it puts something that is abomination to turn-based strategy..... timer limits. Luckily timers are not enforced in every game, just some of the campaign scenarios.
This is mostly just a "gravity wars" style game with a primitive base building element thrown in - and is overhead view 2D instead of side-on 2D.
Moonbase Commander gave me about two hours playtime before I realised I was bored of it already.
The standard price of £4+ is WAY overpriced. Best wait till it comes on offer for £1 or so.
Now lets see just how "unpopular" this review will be - this review page is one of the worst " raving fanboi pendemia" pages I've yet seen! So when this review gets "0 out 1484234647842783534 users found this review helpful" in a few days time, we will have a good headcount of all these nutjobs!
One of my most favorite games way back when; picked it up at a random hardware store one day for $10 and was not disappointed.
With it's unique twist on the RTS genre, Moonbase Commander definitely had it's place on my top 10 PC games.
Placing all your buildings and shooting all your missiles, bombs, and EMPs actually took some skill and added that extra fun factor that the other RTS games didn't have.
While the maps themselves were somewhat bland, the option to create your own maps added a fun twist since you could modify almost everything about it, spawn points and all.
The music selection is tiny, usually one techno/dance song throughout the entire gameplay; so, depending on your genre preference, that could be either good or bad since it wasn't a bad song itself.
All in all, a very fun and solid game, not without it's faults; but definitely worth a buy.
