A Game You Will Keep Coming Back To

Moonbase Commander is one of those games that when you play it you realize just how easy it is to play and then how difficult it is to win at the Gold level for each mission. It is a fun little game that you can invest short bursts of time in or sit for hours to gain the best score. The point of the game is to keep your base alive while seeking to destroy the other base. There are many different way to do this, but you will also realize that you have to create a pathway across the landscape in order to reach your goal. This is a simple little game that will keep you playing, time and time again. If you are not sure, add it to your Wishlist and wait for a sale; I do not think you will be disapointed.

One of the best games ever made

It's pretty much perfect. It has strategy, tactics, and a little bit of skill involved. There are just enough unit types so that there's no dominant strategy, everything has a counter and everything is a counter to something. Nothing could be added or taken away without breaking the balance of the game. I bought this the week it came out, when I was in college. My roommates and I, and later our friends, and later entire dorms on campus, got addicted to it. I wish there were a modern remake that would run natively on Mac or Linux, or in higher resolution, or something, but if this is the only version that exists of one of the all-time best games ever, you owe it to yourself to try it out.

A perfect gem.

My son and I played this game intensely when it was first released. The code was rock solid, it never locked up or crashed. The interface was slick and intuitive, the gameplay and strategy were innovative, challenging and fun - even the voice acting was top notch. A criminally overlooked turn-based jewel that's worth 3 times the price shown here at GOG.

Excellent casual strategy game

Different levels of AI opponents from simple to dastardly. If you can get hold of MoonbaseConsole it will create really good randomised maps that creates heaps of challenges. (You can manually extract the maps for replays from the final gave saves) Great little casual strategy game.

Simplistic Beauty

I've been playing this game for ten years. Every few months I start it up again and then lose myself entirely. I've longed for the day that it became available on GOG, because this game is so deserving of a second chance! Super addictive turn-based strategy that is simple enough for anyone to pick up. Beautifully retro graphics, great voicing, and addictive gameplay. This is like a near-perfect indy game.
