MissionForce Cyberstorm

Played this game extensively when it first came out. Was one of the many faithful who requested to have it on GOG at least 10 years back. Am glad to see it finally here and immediately bought it when I accidently discovered it was available. No regrets whatsoever. Plays the same way it did as I recall. Tinkered with everything... Hercs, Derms, Training, Shields and attacking the enemy from the back etc. Brought back memories. Next thing I knew... 7 hours have passed... Just like old times. One of the few games that I wasted my life away on. Don't seem to get games like these anymore. Thanks GOG.

An amazing game, nearly lost to time.

I bought this game back when it can out and have played up until now. Modern OS' caused a lot of issues getting this game to run and had to resorte to runn a window98 VM. I play a lot of classic games and this was one that deserved being dug up. While I own the origianl, its nice to finally have a version that runs on windows 10. While I would love to see Cyberstorm 2 at some point, this games is far suprior. If you like games much like the resent Battletech, you'll love this.

Brilliant tactical mech combat

As fun today as it was then, Cyberstorm'sturn based mech combat is simple to learn but deeply satisfying to explore. What makes it so fun is that combat is based on a series of tradeoffs that never feel like you're being punished: - The same energy you use to move is also used to fire weapons, so do you advance and fire half your payload or hold a defensive position (and make the enemy fire first but at diminished strength?) - With the ability to directionally focus shields tactical positioning is key, do you sacrifice the weight of better equipment for higher mobility to target enemy weaknesses? - On a mining run to gain resources, you could easily mine a for a turn and escape but you'll miss out on the bonus from fighting every enemy on the map etc. I can't recommend this enough if you love turn based strategy games. The depth of combat and customization of mechs & pilots is great fun. The graphics hold up for a game from the 90s. The music and sound design both add to the atmosphere and provide information on enemy activity through fog of war. Play this game if you love the genre.

Scratches that Mecha Itch Nicely

It's not Battletech, but I like it better than what the more recent Battletech computer game turned into. This is hex-based and turn-based combat with giant robots, with a variety of exotic weapons, shielding, movement modifiers, and various electronic warfare enhancements. What's not to like about it? Well, one thing I'm not thrilled with is the pilots, called "derms", who are essentially cyborgs with practically no higher brain function. There isn't the same sense of attachment to a "team" as with a bunch of Mecha jocks with quirky backgrounds and personalities. Here, you recycle them when they reach the end of their useful lives, or when you can replace them with new and plainly better "derms". Still, it works well from a gameplay aspect. The graphics aren't modern by any means, but it's a very functional and easily learned game, with enough depth and variety to avoid boredom. The sequel had "issues", from what I remember. I had forgotten this gem, but here it is on GOG.

Blast from the past

This game certainly haven't aged well technically. However.. the basic premise of the game is still sound... and despite the (very) aged interface; I (again) found myself playing round after round. It is fun. But if round based tactic games (with mechs) isn't your cup of tea.. then give this a miss. But if it is.. definitely try it. I wish that top meny wasn't there.. but at least the game is playable again. So kudos to Gog for making this happen. Netplay (because it is a multiplayer game) probably is a hassle... if it even works (haven't tried) But you can play it hotseat.. via email even.. which is a rather quaint idea :) but hey.. it works and is a lot of fun. Do note.. this game does not hold your hand in any way, shape or form. You need to figure it out yourself... and that means dying a lot along the way.
