Description
Once this city used to pulse with energy - dirty and dangerous - but alive and wonderful. Now it is something else.

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes.

In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted.

You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror’s Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run.

  • Move yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
  • Immerse yourself: In first person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
  • Challenge yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
  • Free Yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running – what keeps you alive.

A classic that has aged well

"Mirror's Edge" is not a tough one to review, and certainly not tough to praise. It's a tightly-assembled story with superb visuals, relatable characters, and credible acting. The gameplay is excellent; Faith is by no means invincible, but with a bit of skill and judgment, she shows herself quite capable of handling things. It's possible to play most of the game at a sort of amateur level, but it's all very speedrun-friendly too. This isn't a terribly long play, and the game systems are heavily focused on action. The story could have easily been translated to a feature-length action movie. But if you're looking for a nice blend of drama and engrossing platform play with a splash of shooting, "Mirror's Edge" is a great choice.

There is atmosphere here.

First played this on xbox. This stands up well even today, because of the first-person animations and voice acting was done pretty well. The soundtrack is like techno ambience which really connects you with the missions as you feel like this lone person in this dystopian story, which contrasts well with the somewhat pristine city of glass. The open-air roof top environments sell you on this big city you are traversing. The controls are pretty good and never get in the way of enjoying the game once you figure it out. Once the main mission is over the world seems pretty empty. Not much to do after that except some time trails which can keep you engages with a really loyal small community you can find on discord and other places. The sequel to this, Mirrors Edge Catalyst just ups the graphics a bit but not much and adds overall good polish to an already solid concept. But I really wish part 3 would release with next gen graphics and animations. On High Graphics settings, it can be a bit harsh on some PC's and you could even use ReShade to polish the look to your likening with post process coloring. Overall, for the price it's okay. But personally think this should be priced more like $14 today.

A great first person platformer

This game is amazing as long as you don't have to stop. Unfortunately sometimes you don't immediately know where to go. And sometimes you should to stop to shoot at police. Graphics are very good considering the age. The story is nothing to write home about, but doesn't hurt the game. Overall i would recommend this game.

Good Concept, Mediocre Execution

As some have pointed out, this game definitely unlocks that mindset of the Sonic games, thinking quick and making decisions as you parkour and freerun around a corrupt, corporate police state. On paper, I love this game and its concept art. Level design is pretty good, too! However, this game is made by DICE. Now, I quite like a few Battlefield games but in a game about freerunning, I shouldn't move like a Battlefield game. Running is clunky and doesn't feel smooth at all. Button input is laggy. Collision detection can be frustrating (e.g. falling through a pipe unless hitting the right part of the pipe). Combat is infamously bad and imprecise. I found the story to range from alright to dull. It didn't hinder the game at all, though and you may very well find it good. It's definitely not the focus. Overall, this game is a good middle-of-the-road game to take your mind off things. It keeps your mind moving and though the control may be too jagged for a game of its genre, I still found enjoyment throughout. Catch this on sale if you want to satisfy an urge for a parkour game.

Please buy this before it leaves forever

On April 28th, 2023, Mirror's Edge, my favorite game of all time, will be permanently delisted from digital storefronts, including GOG. This means you'll never be able to purchase this game in the future. Buy it on GOG so you have the DRM-free installers, save those installers to an external hard drive, and preserve this cult classic of a title that pioneered first-person platforming in video games. Dying Light, Dishonored, Ghostrunner, Neon White, and Doom Eternal wouldn't exist if not for the ground that Mirror's Edge broke in 2008. Mirror's Edge deserves better. Cherish it so that its legacy is Still Alive.
