Description
Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a short 90s style point-and-click adventure game with puzzles, exploration and an exciting story, written completely in rhyme!

Deep in a fjord, a girl and her bovine,
Western Norway, nineteen-twenty-nine.

This is a story from Calf Ledge,
a small farm perched on a mountain edge.

It's 1920's Norway, and you play as Ruth, a young woman who lives alone on a remote farm at the end of a faraway fjord. You take care of your cows and make delicious dairy products that your friend sells in the closest town. But the dairy business is not going so well, and life on the farm is lonesome and hard. And at nights mysterious things keep happening to Ruth and her cows, making Ruth wonder: Is this the life she wants?

Then one day a giant, golden ship descends from the sky, forcing Ruth out on a journey that will change her life.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a story about moving into the unknown, breaking free from the past, it's a story about age, life, death and time - but most of all it's a story about finding your own place in the universe.

It was a just affair

A well-themed story, bittersweet, with interesting folks to meet. Lovely art with gorgeous landscapes; rhyming text with subtle japes. Atmospheric music both tense and soothing, and no risk of death or losing. Challenges are rarely obtuse, mostly dialogue choices and item use. Clues are hidden in the text if any puzzles have you vexed. Still, some late-game puzzles left me sore, otherwise I'd like the game more. A couple glitches dampened the mood: one softlock and respawning wood. The ending left me almost satisfied; some minor plot threads felt untied. None of the shortcomings ruin the game, but they're worth reporting just the same. Overall, I was pleased and impressed. All this by one person? Who would've guessed! Just the right length, charming, thoughtful, and fun; this is the way adventure games should be done. If this much rhyming you can endure, I'd recommend the game for sure.

A cute and lovely bite-sized adventure

I played through the entirety of this game in 2-3 hours at most. The story was nothing groundbreaking, but it was intriguing enough to keep me interested throughout. The music is nice and atmospheric. The art style is... interesting... As an artist myself, the WILDLY inconsistent pixel size did bother me a fair bit, but I don't think it will be a problem for the average Joe. So, if it's so average, why give it 5 stars? Because it really is a labor of love, and it shows in every aspect of the game in some form or another. It's a game that doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't pretend it's more than it is, and I respect that. My favorite part is that every last bit of text in the game is written in rhymes - I can't imagine this was an easy thing to do. It adds so much character to the game, that it's a shame we don't see this feature more often in videogames. If you're a fan of point-and-click adventure games, consider giving this one a try. It's pretty cheap price-wise for the lovely little game that you're getting.

It's lovely

Honestly, the "Features" section on the store page is spot on for what to expect. My only real issue was the final puzzle in the game which took me far more time than it should. It turned out there are two interactive spots next to each other and I didn't feel like you had time to notice that these two spots are separate. Barring that, I had a great time!

Charming but short and basic

It's somewhat a charming little adventure but it's very short and lacks polish and more careful design all over the place. The (bad) rhymes are unique, but I don't get why someone who doesn't care for metrics or, well, proper rhymes, would make this the unique feature of a Sci-Fi adventure game. It was not totally distracting but added to the "so, so" flair. The ultra-lores pixel art style is OK most of the time, sometimes even pretty but sometimes not so much (the legs in the end sequence *yuck*). There are only very (!) few usable objects and you can't combine inventory objects or use different actions. So, most puzzles are basic, but I got stuck for some time on the frog-puzzle near then end since it's totally and utterly nonsensical rubbish. I also totally hated the final puzzle (queen) because I had an idea what to do but the time pressure, unclear trigger positions and pointless comments made it a pain in the rear. So of my ~3h playtime, at least 30 minutes were somewhat painful. Furthermore, the technical implementation leaves to be desired. When I first started the game (and I started it only twice), the fullscreen mode didn't fill the whole screen and there was no way to change it. Like there are no gfx options at all. Also on most screens, exiting on the bottom of the screen is a process of trial and error. Also, while the cursor changes when it's over a usable object, no object name is displayed. So it's nearly impossible to tell if e.g. there are separate objects or not. Last but not least, the writing is only so-so. There is one other human character, but the game doesn't care for him. The aliens are just blue humans using needles to stitch on a spaceship that has cog based mechanisms. Also, the end is a bit careless and not completely thought-through.

Weird, delightful little game

An unexpected and well-crafted short game. I took off one star for a few clunky aspects. There are some action-y types of puzzles that I found kind of annoying, it's not always clear where the exits are in some scenes, and there's one small movement bug at one point.
