Seems to work on Linux

Putting this info here it seems to run fine through Proton although I haven't played much yet. Linux Mint 22.1, just copied the whole game file from my GOG folder on my Windows PC to my steamapps folder on my Linux laptop, added the .exe as a non steam game and it doesn't appear to have any errors running through proton. I like the look of the game, there's lots of control remap options too which I like. I just wanted to say about Linux compatibility, I haven't played the game enough yet to review that part. But I like the vibe, lol.

Underrated

MM9 is unfortunately very underrated. Yes, it is different, yes it has some issues, yes the graphics may seem unpleasant. However, the game is simply really fun to play overall. The world is huge and well designed, the music is great, and it's basically a huge grind of character progression which just happens to be extremely satisfying. So, do NOT be afraid to give it a shot! Chances are you may really enjoy it.

Lacks the old charm

The final might and magic game, lacks the charm and scope of the old games. A smaller world to explore, fewer less crazy monsters and loot. No apparent relation to the old games and a lack of polish. If you want you can reset the dungeons because of the weird save system where each dungeon gets a file, which incidentally can also help you out if the game bugs out. Try 6 or 7 instead.

Godlike soundtrack, very below average game

This game is only worth buying because of the wonderful soundtrack composed by Paul Anthony Romero which added the main part of atmosphere of the game. Only buy it therefore as cheap as possible. Might and magic IX was this kind of title which always has his problems. I got this version to work with the help of dgvoodoo under Windows 10 64 BIT. It never really worked under 98 or XP. I played it until late in the game but got the hang of it due to brainsick puzzles and nosferatu enemies in a dark area. My party had a high level but no chance against them. I wasn't willing to level up the party anymore because the game totally sucked at this point. At a special stage in the game you will have to make suicide with each party member to reach a new area in the game!!! What a weird and sick story decision. If I had known this before buying the game I would have skipped it. Shall this document the later fate of 3DO? The story of the game isn't worth mentioning it. I really liked the colorful cartoonish style of this open world. The jupiter litech engine is shining. The collecting mania worked so far and some magic spells were cool. The enemy models were drawn with lifeblood. Count it all together and it couldn't save this title.

Dissapointment

Got the retailbox when it was released. It teached me to get info before buying even if its a cool franchise. Loved part 3-8, and I'm still convinced that this piece of crap (excuse my language, but M&M9 gets me really emotional) was the last and biggest nail in the RPG M&M franchise. Plus Side: Whenever the hype of a game without known hard facts begins to get me I dig out the box and stare at it as a bad reminder.
