Description

It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above.

But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever. As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival – the last light in our darkest hour…

Product Overview:
Metro: Last Light Redux is the definitive version of the critically acclaimed ‘Metro: Last Light’, rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine for Next Gen. Newcomers will get the chance to experience one of the finest story-driven shooters of all time; an epic adventure combining gripping survival horror, exploration and tactical combat and stealth.

This definitive version also includes all previously released DLC, adding 10 hours of bonus single-player content to the huge solo campaign. Fans of the original game will notice new features and gameplay improvements, including new melee animations, the ability to check your watch and ammo supplies on the fly, and new full-body player animations.

And those who favoured the more survival-horror oriented gameplay of the cult prequel ‘Metro 2033’ will find a new way to experience the campaign thanks to the introduction of two unique Play Styles – Survival and Spartan. The former transforms Last light from a more action-oriented stealth combat experience to a fraught, slow burn fight for survival. With the legendary Ranger Mode included to offer an extra layer of challenge and immersion, Metro: Last Light Redux offers hours of AAA gameplay for an incredible price.

Based on the internationally bestselling novel series by Dmitry Glukhovsky
  • Immerse yourself in the Moscow Metro - witness one of the most atmospheric worlds in gaming brought to life with stunning next-gen visuals
  • Brave the horrors of the Russian apocalypse - equip your gasmask and an arsenal of hand-made weaponry as you face the threat of deadly mutants, human foes, and the terrifying environment itself
  • Rebuilt and Remastered for next-gen - with all previous DLC content included, new modes and features, and many gameplay improvement, this is the definitive version of the critically acclaimed classic that fans and newcomers alike will enjoy
  • Two unique Play Styles : "Spartan" and "Survival" - approach the game as a slow burn Survival Horror, or tackle it with the combat skills of a Spartan Ranger in these two unique modes
  • The legendary Ranger Mode returns - dare you play the fearsome Ranger Mode? No HUD, UI, deadlier combat and limited resources combine to create the ultimate immersive experience

Too much story-driven for my taste

While great looking, Metro Last Light doesn't give much space for experimentation and exploration. Gunplay is smooth and satisfying, but it quickly ruins immersion once you are transitioned in uncontrollable cutscene. Some of the chapters are gameplay heavy, and some are the opposite - interaction and walking based. I don't think the game has high replayability value While great looking, bugs can't be avoided. Had to restart whole chapter because of corrupt save file. If you like games with heavy focus on the story - you can give this one a shot

If only we had more games like this one.

Beautiful eye candy shooter. Totally dripping with atmosphere. Creepy, wierd, spooky and even scary in places. Yeah it can be a bit linear and scripted, but that does help tell a tightly woven story better. Played it on Xbox, PS4 and now it has dropped free on PC on GOG. This is a long time fave for sure classic game and game series on any platform.

Great atmosphere, terrible game design

I will say this much: Everyone who praises this game's atmosphere is absolutely right. But I don't play shooters purely for the atmosphere. I mainly play them for the gameplay. And Metro Last Light is heavily held back in that department for one simple reason: It's way too scripted. And no, I'm not talking about how an explosion in a cutscene teleports you from the left side to the right side of the room because the game needs Artyom to get stuck underneath a piece of debris in order to play the next unskippable cutscene. I'm talking about how many linear sections there are in this game that can only be completed in one single manner with no possibility for player choice at all. The few times the game actually lets you play are when it's the most enjoyable. Problem is, the game has a story to tell. And not a particularly good one, either. So for huge chunks of the game you'll be following other characters around, wait for them to open the next door as if this game is aping Call of Honor Battleduty. I can't believe I have to say this, but Metro is NOT Call of Duty. Yet some of the largest sections of Last Light remind me of its worst iterations, and not just for the automatically regenerating health. I respect the game for at least having open world sections where you're free to explore. But if at any point you feel lost or just wanna get on with the story, you can bring up your compass and it'll point you into the direction you need to go. If the whole game was like that, I would give it 5 stars. But it's not, so I won't.

Metro of Duty: a Skip-Worthy Title

NOT RECOMMENDED. It is a pale imitation of Metro 2033 and inferior in every regard, except for 2033 Redux has the same quality drops in order to pander to the COD crowd (read: a singleplayer game to pander to multiplayers - pretty dumb). To sum up the inferiorities: 1) worse, overly serious voice acting (the Artyom voice is plain terrible - an American base accent with little comedy-Russian flavoring), 2) graphics are a grey mess in LQ and a smudgy black smearfest in HQ, 3) tons of slow-downs (e.g. when mutant models come close) and to-the-desktop crashes, 4) stealth that would be completely dysfunctional without the non-fatal finishing move and buggy implementing (read: enemies at times cannot see what is in front of them and 5) the gameplay and the other content incl. the story, is largely RECYCLED from 2033 with barely any changes. There are the same sections repeat, often with the same names and content. For example, Death City with visions of the past Moscow in both games and the burning station in Defense (2033) and Contagion (Last Light). It is very clear to me that Last Light and the Redux re-releases were made to cash in on the franchise. Especially the series collection (such as Retro Redux) is a very Slav thing to do. Last Light adds nothing to the overall story except for needlessly killing off Uhlman in the ending. The dude is practically not in the game until the short last chapter. Last Light Redux is the kind of game I would make if I wanted to get myself into developing COD. Last Light is a pure FPS, no matter what mode you pick. Outside chapters' Khan and Dead City minuscule horror elements, there is NONE. Nothing in the game matches even one second worth of 2033's Ghosts chapter. Because COD has no genuine horror (except for wave-gunning zombie modes), that's all there is to it. Even the DLC sucks. In Heavy Squad you are scripted to die in a rocket strike if you take too long (my enemy glitched into godmode). Gameplay sux. DL Metro 2033 instead.
