Less than OK
After playing through the three S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-games, this game was a small improvement, but it also had its share of things that annoyed me, just not as much as in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-games. The positive: + The graphics looks good to me. + Interesting and original story. The negative: - FAR to linear. A couple of my favorite games are Doom 3 and Dead Space I and II. Those are relatively linear. But in this game you are literally walking through tunnels/tubes a lot of the time, and if you are not walking through tunnels/tubes you are often just a passenger on a ride with little or no possibility to influence what happens. Same thing that I disliked with Borderlands. - Mostly impossible to skip cut scenes. - Impossible to save manually. So if you are struggling with a part of the game, you are doomed to play through the same part time and time after time after... And possibly watch the same cut scenes with no possibility to skip. - You often have an NPC following you around, guiding you and virtually holding you hand, almost as a personal assistant. Except for that in this case the assistant seemingly randomly may or may not help you. - Sometimes there was to much running as in mazes when on the surface. - Terrible timed areas because of lack of air filters. - At times you suddenly and without much warning had to tap "E" to survive. Something I have hated at least since I played the "Resident Evil"-games! But at least tapping "E" was consistent and did not change... - Froze for a period of time a few times. At the same time the game seemed to continue in the background since the sound played on, so this could have caused me to die (but luckily never did). - Crashed repetitively at one point in the game. Crashed every time I reloaded, and after every restart of the game. Luckily I found the solution online: Turn off advanced physics, and luckily the game saves was not corrupted. - Startup sequence takes FAR to long and seems to be impossible to skip!
