Metro Exodus - Gold Edition contains the main game and two major pieces of story-driven DLC: The Two Colonels & Sam's Story

Metro Exodus

The year is 2036.

A quarter-century after nuclear war devastated the earth, a few thousand survivors still cling to existence beneath the ruins of Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro.

They have struggled against the poisoned elements, fought mutated beasts and paranormal horrors, and suffered the flames of civil war.

But now, as Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East.

Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created.

Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter.

Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom’s story in the greatest Metro adventure yet.

Features

  • Embark on an incredible journey - board the Aurora, a heavily modified steam locomotive, and join a handful of survivors as they search for a new life in the East
  • Experience Sandbox Survival - a gripping story links together classic Metro gameplay with new huge, non-linear levels
  • A beautiful, hostile world - discover the post-apocalyptic Russian wilderness, brought to life with stunning day / night cycles and dynamic weather
  • Deadly combat and stealth - scavenge and craft in the field to customize your arsenal of hand-made weaponry, and engage human and mutant foes in thrilling tactical combat
  • Your choices determine your comrades’ fate - not all your companions will survive the journey; your decisions have consequence in a gripping storyline that offers massive re-playability
  • The ultimate in atmosphere and immersion - a flickering candle in the darkness; a ragged gasp as your gasmask frosts over; the howl of a mutant on the night wind - Metro will immerse and terrify you like no other game…

Metro Exodus base game also supports Chinese Simplified (text), Chinese Traditional (text), Czech (text), Ukrainian (text) and Japanese (text) languages.

Metro Exodus - The Two Colonels

Just below the surface, under the dead city of Novosibirsk, Colonel Khlebnikov makes his way home to his son, Kirill, for New Years Eve.

But all is not well with the people here: the slime is further consuming the tunnels, mutant attacks appear to be on the rise and the precious ‘green stuff’ that protects the people from radiation poisoning is running low. In order to secure the survival of any of the people, those in charge may need to take drastic measures…

Following the journey and experiences of Khlebnikov during the last days of life in Novosibirsk, retraced by Colonel Miller a year later, players can expect the classic story-driven gameplay of the Metro series in this new linear chapter, complete with a brand new weapon, the deadly flame-thrower, claustrophobic environments, and the all-too-familiar hair-raising tension.

Metro Exodus - Sam's Story

Sam, a US marine at the Moscow embassy before the bombs were dropped, has long dreamed of returning to his homeland, and maybe finding his family alive. The prospect seemed impossible in the darkened tunnels of the Metro, but when the Spartans discovered that Moscow was not the only city left alive after the war, holding out hope didn’t feel so foolish anymore.

Sam makes his way away from the Aurora in search of a way back to the USA, arriving at the remains of Vladivostok’s tsunami ravaged harbours, ruined industrial buildings, and crumbling residential districts. To complete his journey, Sam will discover that he needs every tactic he has learned so far to survive, as his surroundings prove to be far trickier than expected.

Players will forge Sam's path through the sandbox survival landscape of Vladivostok, as they take a brand new journey across the wasteland of post-apocalyptic Russia.

Most Fun I've Had in a Long Time

I had this game on and off of my wishlist for awhile, and ended up purchasing it here on good old GOG while it was on sale. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, since a few buyers have reviewed it saying there are bugs aplenty. The only possibe bug I have enountered was the inability to skip the intro video. That aside, this has been the most fun I have had in many years. Visually, the surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. The weapons can (and will) deteriorate in function unless you maintain them, otherwise you will have to manually cycle jams in some of the weapons. This adds to the immersion andrequirement to be smart with shot placement and use of materials, depending on the level of difficulty.

Very good

The gameplay is awesome, the gun fights feel like they have an impact, like your bullets actually do damage and the animations are very fluid. Story is awesome for what it is. The only reason why I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 is because YOU ARE LOCKED AT 60 FOV with no ways to change it... Motion sickness big time

Outstanding Immersion

The Metro series is a unique gem in the shooter genre and I highly enjoyed Exodus. The open-world parts are great: the game encourages exploration without resorting to needless collectible hunting and each level does not outstay its welcome. I was worried that the crafting would be too cumbersome but it turned out to be a good addition to the gameplay. The story and the characters are very memorable and you grow a strong bond with them over the course of the campaign. Immersion is just outstanding: the whole world simply swallows you and there is nothing like it out there. The shooting and the movement can feel clunky at times but it didn't bother me too much to be honest. One thing the game could have done better is to tell you when you are entering a point of no return in the open world sections. While it is great that the game does not hold your hand when it comes to exploration, it would have been nice to somehow indicate to the players that they will not be able to return to previous sections. Overall, I really enjoyed Metro Exodus and its expansions. The story will stay with me for a while and I am looking forward to the next installment!

Exodus is now what should have been

I tried to play the game some months ago, before the Enhanced Edition was even announced, and let me tell you: What a dissapointment! The game was broken and badly optimized even for a high end PC like mine and there was a point where the story could ot be followed due to a bug. Basically the game was unplayable for me and I rated it bad back then. Now, with this new Enhanced Edition I decided to give it a second chance, because I could see how the story worth the time alas buggy and flawed. Let me tell you something this a totally new experience...now, METRO EXODUS is the game that should have been! - The bugs that stop the user to make progress on the story are now solved: At least I could finally finish the Baron's plot and move on without any flaw. - The game looks eve BETTER but now it is well optimized thanks to DLSS 2.0 - Basically is the same game, WELL DONE this time. For me it's a MUST BUY! I have felt (even without having beat the game yet) like this is the best plot driven game, in terms of inmersion, since Half Life. Like a good book...there is a point where you cannot stop reading ad you will feel the same way with METRO EXODUS. Congratualtions to the dev team for having fixed this amazing gem!

Not my favorite Metro game, but not bad.

Exodus has a lot of little issues that add up. Many aspects of the game are great: environment art, setting, animations, pretty acceptable dialogue. The problem is that there are so many cheap video game moments that just rip you right out of the world. The things that frustrated me: I think the biggest gripe I had with the game was the mutant AI in the open world sections. Even on hardcore, the amount of time the AI would spend pathing was just dumb. On flat ground it wasn't uncommon to see watchmen struggle to find an attack path. Other issues included environment traversal, the liberal amount of supplies (hardcore left me with a surplus 90% of the time), and the weird and frustrating way radiation damage works when paired with scripted sequences. I was so frustrated wasting syringes during the final act because the game told me I was hurt, but once I was past the scripted sequence the syringes would heal like normal. Didn't preform particularly well on a 8700k-1080-16gb setup, weird animation hiccups on distant objects. The writing itself was better than a lot of other games, and the voice actors did great. Unfortunately I had issues with overlapping dialogue. And of course the "follow the NPC" sequences where they move slower than your normal speed but faster than your walking speed. Some of the scripted sequences feel cheap. The things I liked: The environments are pretty spectacular. I didn't care for the desert, but the other parts were pretty cool. One of the earlier stops during the journey was particularly fun, but I won't spoil that. Even if navigating the open world sections could be tedious, it never looked bad. The animations are as good as ever, it's always been one of my favorite parts of the Metro series. Guns are impactful and satisfying, and moving through the different environments affects the soundscape appropriately. The end was worth it. Some early game moments were cheap and ham fisted, but it was worth it in the end.
