Best game - Ok-ish port

You know, this is the best game in history (at least it is for me) and I think is cool to be finally able to play it officialy without emulators or whatever. BUT... Default control scheme sucks, controller support could be a lot better (why can't I use my triggers? those were a thing in the original). I can't turn on subtitles in FMVs, which would be nice, since english isn't my mother language ant it is in fact the only language available. On the other hand this game includes all of the goodies from metal gear solid integral, and that's great. As long as a better version than this doesn't comes out, I supposed this is a straight-forward way to play this classic.

The port issues don't mar the experience

This port was my first-time playthrough of this game ever. It might not be quite up to snuff with the PS1 original, the butchered music quality being one particular offender, and the inability to do diagonals with the controller's Dpad being another (got around that with my F310's mode button, though), but nothing of such hindered my enjoyment of what the game offered. So, you may have heard people talk about how this is one of the greatest games of all time. Having played to the end, I can see why. The game play is superb, straight to the point with the emphasis on getting to where you need to be rather than just mowing down enemies. And while the graphics may reek of the PS1's aesthetic (the polygons even jitter in this version lol), they weren't an eyesore to me, and the other presentative aspects, the music and the story, are excellent. The story and dialogue in particular, I'm amazed at how many deep, philosophical topics and life lessons were thrown into this game. And the voice acting was quite splendid for a 90s English dub. So, if you're looking to play this game, it's not a bad idea to try this version here on GOG. They may have simply done the bare minimum to get this old PC port working on modern systems out-of-the-box, but it's perfectly playable the way I see it, and the overall experience is still there. This GOG rerelease is a blessing.

The Best Game Ever, Now on GOG.

I don't ever write reviews of games. I am making an exception for Metal Gear Solid. That is how amazing this game is. It is a fantastic story with amazing characters, plot twists and turns, and fun stealth gameplay that still holds up to this day. I can't recommend this game enough. Go play it.

Poorly aged masterpiece.

The controls do not hold up to modern standards at all. However this did not stifle my enjoyment one bit. The game is all there, exactly as it was made 22 years ago. Just as fun as it was 22 years ago, ported to run on modern hardware. DONT sleep on this, if you like the series in any capacity, do yourself a favor and try it. If enough people do, Konomi may see value in porting MGS 3+4 to modern systems.

Bucket Listers Rejoice

For anyone wanting to start this series the right way, look no further. This is the cheapest, easiest, most user-friendly way to get your feet wet and start your path in this amazing game franchise TODAY. Sure, you could also buy the original Metal Gear (also on this site for cheap) and start at the VERY beginning, but it's not really necessary in my opinion. Okay so to anyone who hasn't figured this out already: THE BLACK BAR IS NOT A GLITCH, read that again. Also, reviews that talk about how crappy the graphics look on the PC version aren't lying, it's just something you have to accept about the era this game was made in. It's not as bad as the sprites from FFVII, but it sometimes is difficult to feel the full emotional impact of a tear-jerking scene when you're watching a non-expressive, emotionless, eyeless mask of a face bob up-and-down for five minutes straight. Otherwise this game just blows me away even this many years later. Having owned and played the original Playstation 1 console as a kid I just can't get over how well designed and developed this game is in almost every aspect. The voice acting is phenomenal, it plays like a cheesy thriller action movie with all the whirlwind emotional twists and turns and I love every minute of it. The gameplay is a little tanky, kind of like playing old Resident Evil games, but it's very innovative for the time with a huge arsenal of weapons and items being at your disposal. The story is much like the voice acting and is very over-the-top and dramatic with a spy element that is hard not to love. So what's "in the box"? Well since this is "Integral" you get a more finished version of the original game, with all of the VR missions and whatnot. You could also consider this a "director's cut" because the game is altered slightly to accommodate the PC (mostly in the Psycho Mantis fight). You can easily plug in a PS4 controller to play it.
