Description
Memoranda is a game about forgetting and being forgotten!

A point and click adventure game with magic realism elements that tells the story of a young lady who gradually realizes she is forgetting her own name. Is she really losing her memory or is there something else that could explain the strange circumstances? The story happens in a quiet little town where a few ordinary and strange characters live together. Including a World War II surviving soldier to an elephant taking shelter in a man’s cottage hoping to become a human. There is one thing all these characters have in common: they are losing something. It could be a name, a husband or even someone’s sanity!

The story is inspired by various Haruki Murakami short stories that describe a surreal world full of lonely characters.
  • A classic 2D point and click adventure game in a magic realism setting.
  • Unique and beautiful hand-drawn full-HD 2D graphics.
  • Inspired by lots of Haruki Murakami’s short stories.
  • Original soundtrack with more than 15 tracks.
  • Thousands of dialog lines with English voice over.
  • Meet more than 35 characters in 40 different locations.

Meh...

The game starts off with potential, it has an interesting atmosphere and great artwork, but soon degrades into a sequence of arbitrary steps. From far-fetched item combinations to useless item descriptions, to extremely awkward and ambiguous writing. The story is OK but mostly incoherent, following dream-like rules, and despite this the game constantly reprimands the player for attempting possible solutions (that often make more sense than the game's intended solution). The voice acting is unimpressive, but in particular the main character is overacted and melodramatic. For some odd reason the game seems to contain a lot of (English) grammatical errors and awkard phrasing that disrupts the overall experience. On the other hand, the music and sound design is nice but it is not enough to save the game. As an old-school adventure gamer that's been around for a while, I found this game annoying and a bit frustrating. It baits you into playing, because it looks good, but the execution is clunky and awkward. You can safely skip this game.

Very atmospheric but very short

The game that doesn't offer perfect gameplay but has totally unique atmosphere. The real gem is the music, it is VERY emotional and fits to corresponding surreal locations. The world feels like a series of interconnected dreams inhabited by characters you wouldn't believe can coexist. And the logic of puzzles can sometimes blow your brain because it is too evident. One of the disadvantages is the location opening system. Sometimes you can't travel to a place just because the developers don't allow you to use that road. And later you can use that road because you "learned" about the location. Similarly some of the locations become obsolete and you can't travel to them after some events. The last part of the game feels a bit crumpled. The world contains unused characters, there are some logical bugs (e.g. you can still talk with "sleeping" Jack). I have the impression that the game was planned to be much longer. some locations are present on the map but you don't visit them at all. Well, it is an indie game after all. I recommend you to experience the feeling of this game. It is the piece of art no matter what.

Beautiful graphics but odd puzzles

Memoranda is a beautifully looking point n click game with good soundtrack and voice acting. The art design of the game is definitely the best part about it and you can see that every scene and character has been done with care. Storywise... a bit confused. You play as a young lady who has forgotten her name, from there it spreads out a bit and you never really come to a full conclusion on anything. It's mostly odd, you meet a lot of people and explore but that's about it. The puzzles are definitely the weakest point of the game. Some of them makes sense but a majority does not. With that said, still a good-looking and interesting game with big potential; hopefully the devs makes more games in the future! I recommend this one to fans of the genre, it's definitely worth a playthrough.

Short dream logic experience

tl;dr: It's a charming experience, rather memorable for its slightly off feel to the world and its logic. It could end up being very short (2-5 hours would be my best guess), so consider if that price-to-length ratio is okay with you. More details: The game is *very* short. Once you know the solutions to puzzles, it could be easily finished under two hours. You won't do that on your first playthrough (not one without heavy reliance on a walkthrough, anyway), because the game runs on dream logic - by which I don't mean moon logic (seemingly random solutions found e.g. in some of Sierra and LucasArts classics). Most solutions to the puzzles will seem obvious in hindsight, with perhaps a couple exceptions. The one that I had to look up so as not to waste time trying everything on everything else was how to carve a stamp to forge a signature; if there was some hint for how to accomplish that in dialogue or item descriptions, then I must've missed it completely.

Lovely game with an adventure to come

I really liked the game. I didn't find puzzles illogical. In fact, this was one of the easiest adventure games I've ever played. There were hints given and usually it was enough just to manipulate things. It's getting harder in the end, though. The main complication for me personally was that sometimes I did right things just not in time (too soon) and then it's hard to think that maybe I should try it again. The game itself has a lovely graphics and the story is gripping. I didn't feel like I wasn't engaging with the game. At some point I even started suspecting the couselor was evil, so it made me a bit paranoic.
