Why did they bother?

There is nothing classic about this game. It's not even that old. Should it even qualify for this site? This is like the rotting roadkill you passed on your way to work, except that is more edible than this game is fun. 2 thumbs down

Just no.

Bought that game back in 2006 on the Hobbytronik computer fare for around 3 Euros because i love MoO2. Installed it, watched the intro where my most loved race, the Mrrshan, gets decimated for speaking up and then couldn't even select them any more on the new game screen but only a bunch of the old ones, Generic Alien Race A, Generic Alien Race B and so forth. Ok, i thought, give it a chance, lets play as a human. I should have thrown it away instead. The UI is a disaster and the game mechanics are an ongoing train-wreck, you should thread this game like ShaqFu. If you see it destroy it! Remove this abomination from existence!

Not worth the time of day.

I am not sure how the developer managed to make such a terrible game, especially after the brilliant MOO 1+2 as the predecessors, but they did manage it.

Only one saving grace

Terribly implemented- right from the mixup with the media release ("KangaMOO"), the game was a fiasco, and not even completed on release, with a plethora of bugs and horrible game design. It's a micromanagement hell, with fewer features than would make it worthwhile. Great if sorting through 200+ accounting sheets a turn to make sure that your tax settings were actually being listened to per world. And the story wasn't even original. AI was terrible, prone to making predictable decisions based on faulty logic process and pre-determined alliance factors (Cynoids always attack humans, for example). And the fleet/planet invasion screens were so bad that the planet invasion screen is (if you need to) a zerg-rush-and-hope-it-works, or (at best) a bomb-the-planet-from-space-for-twenty-turns-so-the-last-200-inhabitants-finally-die. The ONLY saving grace was that the game designers made it modable. If you can have patience, and have a knowledge of various code types, you can actually (with time) salvage a half-decent game out of this. For people who want to play a game, instead of a design project, or people who have no idea about programming, steer clear.

Underrated

While it isn't as good as MOO2 which is one of the all0time 4x greats, MOO3 is still worth a play, the interface is clunky and awkward but their is tremendous depth here. The weakest of the series by far but still a decent strategy game
