This game should be on any good top 20 classic games listing. Absolutely groundbreaking when it came out.
These days graphics substitute for gameplay. This game makes you want to play it regardless what the graphics look like.
A winning formula today would be to just take the back end of Orion 1 and slap some new graphics on it. Literally.
this is better in some way as it is supported with 1.40x Patch but I have some difficulties with my mouse. Had to reduce the dpi of it. Luckely I can setup a few resolutions on it.
The game it self is (I'm talking here about MOO II of course ;) ) the best game in this category I ever have played.
I believe I played it 1000+ hours. And now again. As my old version doesn't worked with win7 (or I couldn't bring it to work, it was the win95 version) I didn't played it a while.
The first game I played a lil easy, so only on Hard. Didn't froze or any thing. Worked better than the win95 version on my old win-xp as this sometimes froze or closed/kicked me back to deskop.
And I still beat 6 enemies on Hard, but huge galaxy, mineral rich, pre warp. (easy as I mentioned).
Next I will try impossible again. (there in my best days I only win the game with 6 enemies - so I still have one more to go ;) )
I bought these in hopes they were going to be a more stable version of the classics I already own (MOO1 on 4.25 floppy and MOO2 on a Windows 95 CD). Sadly they both run thanks to DOSBOX which is effectively what I already have.
If you're looking for a fantastic pair of games in the 4x genre, this is a must-buy. If you're looking for a more stable version of the game that works better than pulling out your old install media, this isn't worth the time. 5 stars games, 3 star installer...
So much better then the wargaming remake.
Better aliens less clutter in the menu's
better ship design capabilities (in 2 anyway)
just generally better then the remake.
