In short, this game is a gem, but in most missions emenies spawn too early (before you finish your first building) which leads to a sslog fest in the early game.
I've played a lot of this game on Steam and I always had to put up with random crashes to the point where it got unplayable. The GOG version is much more stable, I haven't experienced crashes in my time playing the game. There's still the time manipulation problem though where you can get overwhelmed very quickly at the start of the game if you keep it in 5X because the building time doesn't scale equally with the spawning time of monsters. The easy solution (and kind of an exploit) is to play early game in 0.2X since the building is much faster then spawning rates but the game gets real boring real fast, I hope this is something that's going to be fixed in the future.
I really wanted to love this game. I adored the first one and still play it to this day.
This game is majorly difficult, with no way to adjust it. You lay down your first buildings and before they are finished mobs of monsters destroy them. Every now and then you get lucky enough to get some things built, but they don't last long before they are taken down
I was and stll am a fan of the first Majesty game, the idea and humor are neat and the mechanics are simple but serviceablle The strategical and tactical options were limited but the fascination to watch your city grow and buzz with life is weirdly satisfying. Except from the 3D graphics Majesty 2 is very similar to 1, yet better. There are some additions like the Hall of Lords to import heroes from previous levels, new skills and spells, in the inn you now can band a party of heroes together etc etc. So, there are many new things to enjoy. Guilds now house in most cases one less hero, big deal. Its hard to understand the demands for exactly the same game and complaints that this or that is different now, and was so much better in the orignal and blablala..., then go play the first Majesty. If you want to experience some new things and enhanced complexity based on the original concept I do recommend to try this one out.
NOT RECOMMENDED. It is very clear that the game tries to recreate what Majesty 1 had without the source code and the result is is vastly inferior. The AI is lobotomized and makes it extra likely that the units do the job in the most messed up way possible.E.g. with the enemy at 10 % health and them 30 %, they flee and if the enemy has a lot of attack range, it will end up chasing and killing the dude about 4 times out of 5. The part that really kills the Majesty gameplay is how units lock on to the reward flag objectives and ignore everything else trying to get to it, often getting themselves killed. For comparison, in M;ajesty 1, the units would clear the way killing enemies and collecting loot on the way there. Units almost always lock on to the flag with the highest reward, underlining how stupid and brainless it all is. In Majesty 1, there was a lot flag ignoring going on, which is why this kind of stuff almost never happened.
The other annoying part that cements this game as garbage: the non-mentioned fright mechanic, meaning that a lvl 16 Dwarf with all gear turns back to flee (it will refuse to come out of the guild building if pursued that far) when it sees a bunch of imps or vampires i.e. units that would normally have no chance against it. There are levels with huge amounts of imps spawning, meaning you can get royally F'd trying to deal with them.
There are a lot of glitches in the game. The most common one is how the UI and unit graphics start to turn glitched as soon as there are about a hundred units active in total. It can crash the game if it goes on for too long.
I tried the Demo and a non-Collection copy at my pal's house and did not see the game pace glitch with fast enemy spawns combined with slow build times, no differences between the two. Try the original release if you get issues. The game pace is glitchy, e.g. cutscenes fast-forward-skip time. What a mess.
